DHL assement centre

Just signed up with a agency in Newcastle looking for some class 1 work ,had my c+e for about 4 months have driven rigids for about 20yrs so plenty experience there but just seems to count for nowt these days, anyway signed with this agency and had plough through mountains of paper work /tests then a interview so did all that then the guy said to get on the class 1 jobs you will have to travel down to Northampton to a dhl site for assessment .The assessment will last for about 3hrs ,has anybody on here done one of these courses it just seems a long way to travel for a three hour course cheers lads /lasses

I had to travel about 30 miles to an Asda site to get me green card on agency, however all time and extra mileage paid.

Hopefully you’re being paid for this and they are paying a decent 30/45p mileage rate on top of time from agency office to N’pton and return…no pay no mileage no do.

Seems odd they haven’t got a contract closer to you to tick this box, or have NBG or whoever it was took over Dentrassangles taken all their work?

Have told them thanks but no thanks .According to them they will not give you any mileage nor wages nor meal allowance nothing so they expect me to work a day for free at my expense which employer would expect you to do that

None worth bothering with mate.

dhl wont pay for assessments however all down here have an onsite assessor so your only going local not spending fuel etc.

I have never heard of a dhl site requiring you to go down south.

Its the deal the agency have with dhl if your a newly qualified class 1 driver for insurance purposes you must take this course if you want to drive for them

change agencies what a load of tosh - even a new pass can take the assessment on site and pass.

which agency is it?

No pertemps is bad

DHL supposedly have their assessment database online now so you can be assessed at any site instead of every site. The same principle that Tesco have and TDG had. DHL assessments only last 2 years though (subject to frequent change)

Bunch of ■■■■■■■■ avoid like the plague

It sounds like they don’t have an on site trainer/assessor, they should look to be getting an assessor from another depot to come up and assess drivers. That is what happens at our place at the moment as we don’t currently have one on site.

To expect you to travel to Northampton unpaid with no mileage payment at the very least is not on, you should as said be able to be assessed at any DHL site.

As far as I know DHL policy is to assess drivers once every year, or if you have an accident then you have to be reassessed ASAP before you go back out on the road, stupid really when it is a minor bump but it’s DHL policy.
