DFS Sofa company

Just wondering if anyone has worked for dfs as a driver driving their 7.5t truck around? For 23k a year, seems like good money but don’t know what the hours or working conditions are

Not sure now, but about 5/6 years ago new a driver and he seemed happy enough, been thinking about it myself buy lugging sofas around every day aint my idea of fun lol

I got offered a a job with DFS through an agency when I first passed, in a 7.5T, wasn’t my cup o tea though.

One of my friends works for DFS.
Think it’s 24k for 45hrs then as much overtime as you like.
Over time is paid at time in third.
Works out at 13p/h for overtime.
He says he makes quite bit extra on tips.

Think it’s like 10 drops a day.

Just depends if you like ■■■■■■■ sofas around

I worked for a transport company here in France that specialised in furniture distribution, all I can say is they earned thier money! ! They (the drivers were paid well for France though) I was working in the depot loading and unloading the trailers, fortunately the market gave out and i was layed off before I completely ■■■■■■ my back! !

Sorry gents to revive old thread but saved starting a new one.
Spent last hour trawling through jobs searches and found a local (ish) job with DFS. Delivery driver (7.5 t) apparently on 29k ( OTE).
Anyone worked for them and know what they are like?

I’ve had a quick look of the www and can’t find any reference to a design revolution resulting in much lighter sofas and chairs?

More seriously, the regular pro driver forum might be better to ask this question? Those there will be more likely go have had experience than those starting out.

When I did stint at Argos I met a couple of guys who’d been working for DFS, they had nothing good to say about their working conditions at all, they considered doing 50 drops a day delivering washing machines and fridges to be a step up.

Not done DFS direct, but did briefly do furniture via another company much of which was DFS, and couldn’t do that more than a few days.

Getting stuff in peoples houses is bad enough normally, but add in outside steps, uneven paths, slippery decking and “it needs to go upstairs”. Plus many don’t clear a path and leave things in the hope you’ll break them for a compo claim (me sinical ?). Oh and that doesn’t include blocks of flats since they wont fit in lifts.

Also imagine how many are packed into a 7.5T van, so you got to get them out the top of the stack, off the back (possibly no tail lift) and hump it walking backwards which ain’t fun between two of you.

Plus now they sell more than sofas and looking at the web site, I suspect you might have to assemble some stuff (we did). That’s fun in peoples houses.

£29K - suspect that might include a lot of 6 day weeks and 12+ hour shifts inc weekends. Lot I worked for with class 2 trucks were on about 23K and they delivered for DFS to John Lewis.

Oh and remember, if anything gets damaged or customer complains (regardless of legimacy) its your fault in most of these companies. They can get 7.5T drivers via grandfather rights.

Thanks for the replies, read some of the employee reviews on indeed. Most were fairly negative. Someone even mentioned working with drivers mates( often agency) who didn’t speak much English. Not ideal when you need a bit of guidance.
I also wouldn’t relish the idea of putting furniture together in people’s houses. One review also stated that even if you finish early, you can’t go home.
So yes a bit to consider with these types of jobs.
