Always wondered what it’s like working for DFDS or DSV…

Can’t wait to eventually pass. I have been given permission to be away for up to 3 weeks. As long as I get 2 weeks off
Not much to ask of an employer really…is it?
another local firm swallowed up, DFDS logistic’s won’t care about the fleet, its the contract’s they want…
as for working for dsv, from what i’ve heard there not a bad firm to work for, plenty of shift’s going, days/night/tramping/4on-4off/local shunting from dsv to the dock’s.
MAN tgx xlx or xxl unit’s, scania topline, few odd ball unit’s for shunting, trailers, mix of standard and mega euroliners, skelly’s, and flatbeds. also have a few class2 aswell, truck’s are serviced by dsv on site, most of the trailer’s are handled by a contractor.
allway’s seem very busy.
They’re minted ain’t they so at least the tackle should be decent.

Yep all correct. Have been there 8 years now and quite content. Very rare for a driver to leave.
I start at quayside next week, hope this doesn’t change anything!
What are them day cab man 6 wheel units used for ,ive seen a few knocking about pulling fridges.

They weigh less than the other units so allow us to carry more weight in fridge. Used mainly for Arla contract.
DSV over here (Roundthorn Industrial Estate, Wythenshaw, Manchester), the transport is done by Warehouse One, even the DSV liveried vehicles are driven by Warehouse One drivers.
I did a day on agency there, was considering applying for it full time, but after a day on agency I changed my mind. Especially when the wage went DOWN a couple of weeks later in the advert
It was salaried, so a lot of drivers rushing about like idiots, queuing up at the end of your shift to tip your truck, starting early to arrange your jobs in the order you want them loading etc…

Mate of mine drives one of those from Harwich to Hatfield X2 per day, there are 2X motors on it.
Hes on a good wage for it as well.
Just a shame there isnt a bed to get on for the 45min break.

Wouldn’t bet on that. Seen dfds’s accounts lately?
dont know much about dfds on the mainland, but i draw loads for dfds belfast, shipping into cairnryan, and i don’t think ive ever seen a dfds branded unit in the yard, every one was subcontractors, Manfreight, MVH etc,
could never understand why this was, i assume its cheaper in the long run for them to run subbies that there own units,
dfds doesn’t have any units or drivers on the payroll, neither does DSV. being that they are two different companies anyway.

So you reckon they will make all quayside drivers self employed eventually?
milodon:
neither does DSV.
Well there’s 125 drivers that are employed at the Immingham depot that would disagree with that,me included

No chance Micky. You’ve nowt to worry about.

No sweat, although I do wonder sometimes if they would like to do it here as well. We certainly have a heck of a lot of subbies at our place that are kept busy.

Quite a few of us in DK and I believe in Norway as well. Will add a very good firm to work for.
