Destructive Power

Hey All,

I don’t think this clip has been posted on here before - but, and despite having watched a good few traffic crash clips on the TV and interwebs, it was only really when I saw this clip did I begin to understand the potential destructive power of HGV’s in general.
Not going to be news as such to you old-hands out there, but to me as someone who is just starting out in their driving career, it came as a timely reminder of what I am getting myself into and the ‘professionalism’ with which I need to approach the job.

One thing I would like to ask from anyone that knows, what’s the weight range of one of those mixers, first empty and then fully-laden?

I’m not going to embed the vid as I want to make people aware that it is fairly ‘powerful’ in nature and from what the reports say, 2 people lose their lives - so only watch if you understand that first.

Have a look on the Hanson website, theres some info on there. :wink:hansonready-mixconcrete.co.uk/te … formation/

Hi a similar sort of thing happened to my brother in law in edinburgh over 10 years ago he pulled up at lights behind a wagon a tipper wagon did not stop in time and turned his sierra estate into a mini fortunatly he survived after being cut out of the wreckage and fixed up although he never was the same again until his premature death from the long term nature of his injuries a couple of years ago
The video clip that bought the destructive power of hgvs home to myself was one from a tunnel in russia a line of traffic comes to a halt then what at looks like full speed a truck hits the last car which just dissapears and the impact shunts the whole line of traffic all over scary stuff

Around 11 tonnes empty, 26 tonnes fully loaded.

lots of smoke coming from the rh side , wonder if he’s cooked the breaks as there seems to be no or hardly any let up on speed
