Des Hartley & Son of Batley

Does anyone know the type of work they do and what there like to work for ?.

Can’t answer your question mate, I park outside their yard a few times a month they run old but tidy looking daf and volvos. Wagons coming and going all night long.

They are local and im working for a firm round the corner … I understand they rent one off their lorries out to a owner driver but other than that they hold their cards very close to their chest.

Thanks for your replies. There looking for a class 1 at Batley and l wondered what type of work they did etc. Looking to get back into tramping but wont just work for anyone. T’s & C’s have to be right.

Could always call them and ask

Do a night /day trunk for city link

I’ve rang many firms who’ve advertised for drivers who are very sketchy about what they pay etc. Several times l’ve travelled more than 80 miles for an interview to realise that had they discussed money before hand l wouldn’t have wasted my time and there’s by going. I now make it a rule that if they won’t discuss t & c’s before hand l won’t attend an interview.

A previous job advertised OCT 19th 2012, jcp.jobhits.co.uk/CLASS-1-HGV-DR … -BAY-35778 I also work just around the corner from them.

A friend of mine used to do that with them, but they fell out in a spectacular fashion.

Ken.

That’s why the advert says previous applicants need not apply then?

They were advertising the other week and I went for interview the bloke says il give you a ring next week and you can come in for assessment still waiting for the call

Same here mate. Looks like he hasn’t got the balls to give people a straight answer.

Did he tell you about the Incab cameras, 1 facing the driver, and 1 facing the road.

Exactly the same here mate. Same reason I didn’t chase it up.
Think the guy needs to grow a pair, and let people know we’re they stand.

Went for an assessment with them and had a drive with one for the owners in a scruffy old Volvo, filthy inside and out, broken drivers mirrors and was entirely unimpressed with them and the company, never got a call back either but wouldn’t have accepted it anyway, no way would I night out n the sort of rat cab I drove on my assessment.

Money offered was about average for the area, work seemed to be trunking fron amazon to cov and back and otherwise general haulage.

Oh and the yard is a dump as well as offices.

I signed on with another local firm with 18 month old leet and contract all over country and loving it

hey there sorry about my user name, i don’t know how to change it. anyway i work for des hartleys and ive never had any problems, good wagons, good bosses who are all brothers and the moneys not to bad if you put in the hours as far as not being called back in my experiance if you want a job you call them back,we cant all pick and choose who we work for.as far as being taken out in the wagon for a test drive, yes some are mucky in &out, but thats down to who ever drives them and yes they are scruffy sods,if you had bothered to take a step back and look you would see all the trampers have nice wagons and nice paint jobs, but you would’nt know as you never got ‘called back’ you should have called back yourself and asked for the boss not spoke to his ‘monkey’ anyway if any of you go to truckfest you would see we do have nice wagons and the drivers “all good lads” take care of there wagons, but hey you would’nt know cos you never got “called back”.But if any of you do ever get a job with des hartleys, whats that saying,“dont judge a book by it cover”
