Yesturday, I exited the M60 J24 to go over the woodhead via the M67
up the slip road and into the R/H lane 4 (M67) at the lights, lane 3 is marked A57 East, however after going through the 2nd set of lights the road markings spiral outwards, so if you keep the white line on your left, to your left as you come off the slip road you should cross the bridge in the middle lane, and exit the roundabout and enter lane 1 of the M67…goddit so far?
however white van man, who exited the M60 along side of me and stopped at the lights at the top of the slip road in lane 3 (A57 east) thought he should have a right to be in the middle lane over the bridge and exit to the M67.
luckily there wasn`t any contact or accident, however white van man decided to get lippy, and noted my registration No, so no doubt when I get to the office later this morning I will have had a complain made against me
Anyone else had a problem while negotiating this roundabout
Sounds about right for all lane specific roundabouts…I just dont understand why its so difficult for car and van drivers to adhere to the lines marked out…And why do they always assume your in the wrong coz your driving a hgv in the right lane (as much as width/length allowing)…Just one more thing to keep you on your toes i suppose eh!
You are correct in what you say, however an “unofficial” rule has come about on this particular roundabout that lanes 3 & 4 both go for the M67 as there are 2 lanes on the roundabout. They’ve had many tries at lane markings on this one, but they’ve never come up with one that works properly. The one under the M1 at Tinsley is the same. The lanes do work but are not really marked for the correct destination.
If you do try to stay in the outside then if your fully loaded you just end up with everyone trying to remove your front end as you move to your left. Rightly or wrongly the public appear to have decided on this one, but no-one informed the highways agency…
