That want their pallets broken down, dragged down a gravelled drive or at the back of the horse stables on cobble stones with a pump truck pulling over a ton of whatever they have ordered on the internet.
I had a lady say, just put that lot in the garage for for her, boxes of coffee,so she did not have to do that job later, and they say take the pallets back, they have paid for the pallet,so you keep it and burn it on the log fire then.
The next was a 4 pallets of soil for a private house, they like lorries when they are getting what they want, but do not like them when we are a nuisance to them.

You did what now? Are you aware that people will give you money for pallets? At one kitchen manufacturer in the center of Leeds I used to go to we used to fight to get the first drop because the company just used to throw pallets in the skip. We’d tip and then slip the forkie a fiver to load us up with the empties he was going to chuck in the skips. Then it was round the corner to a pallet yard and we’d get a quid a standard pallet and three quid for a euro cash in hand thank you very much.
You should take note of where pallet places are when you’re out and about and if someone does what she did, drop them off on the way back and get a few quid for yourself.
I tell my customers that are awkward that Fedex only provides dock to dock service, We have liftgates , so if no dock we deliver to their door. Not to a shed down a gravel pathway round the corner in 2 ft of snow (like church of scientology wanted me to do last winter lol).
If they dont accept this i then let them know they can come pickup their freight from our airport location, 30 miles outside the city they usually change their minds
I don’t have to deal with all that anymore, I mainly deliver to factories now.
About 5/6 months ago though I was working on pallet networks and home deliveries. Never again, if it wasn’t the customer trying to tell me what to do it was the office running every 5 minutes.
They once sent me out in a 7.5t to drop off a couple of failed deliveries. I got to the last one which was a pallet with one of those 1t bags of stone for some guys garden. I swear when I finally dragged it onto the tail and dropped the pump truck I thought the entire front of the lorry was going to lift off the ground lol
You think delivering to private houses is bad tou should try schools. School secretaries are a breed apart, they want you to deliver each parcel to each classroom, without making a noise as you might disturb the little darlings, without parking your noisy truck anywhere near the school in case the neighbours see, without being able to turn round in the dedicated turning circle because a teacher has parked there because she didn’t want to carry her bag further than she needed.
Did it for years and I had to learn to switch off.
I used to deliver bathroom suites to houses via an internet company. In their terms and conditions was the subsection…“Delivery” It stated that our deliveries were by a 1 man crew, and would deliver doorstep only. It also stated that “If you don’t agree to this, please go no further with your purchase.” The times and the rows I had with people, who simply clicked “buy now” and expected little old me to carry a whirlpool bath upstairs for them.
In the end I printed and laminated the terms and took them with me.
Same with inaccessible properties. They were told end of nearest lane only. They still expected me to drive a truck down a pathway! Thank God those days are over.

dedicated turning circle
Isn’t this another phrase for Car Park / Crap Store / Rubbish Area (delete as appropriate). I’ve never seen a turning circle which is totally clear and available for turning! I delivered to a small industrial estate the other day - one of the businesses had taken over the turning circle by parking all their vans in it, then moaned when I parked across their driveway.

I done schools a bit with 3663. Absolutely hated going to them. Hospitals were an absolute nightmare also, the one way system was just about wide enough to get 2 wagons side by side(literally 2 or 3 inches wide enough) instead of keeping the deliveries to strict time slots so to avoid congestion they let every drive down there at the same time.
It was also the ambulance an fire route so It had to be kept clear.
Spread as you tip deliveries with stone and shingle. Mostly when there is a digger sat there they’re too lazy to use. If the customer’s awkward, I switch the weighloader alarm on and tell them it wont let me drive and tip quickly as it’s too much strain on the hydraulics.
That’s a fact; driving around loaded with the body raised does strain the tipping gear…A good reason to drive our autos is that they wont drive/tip at the same time, it’s one or the other.
I did home deliverys for a year, in the end they can demand but it gets you no where.if it was too much it wasn’t done simple
I usually play the kerbside delivery and not insured to come inside your property cards, it a little different though if I get a sniff of a tip!!
