I bought the one with live traffic and it has paid for itself twice over, it has a sim card in and downloads live traffic as well as the ability to search google for an address
I have had the snooper and dont rate it at all, you are not able to customise the route as well as you can with tomtom
Can someone please clarify something before I commit to buying ;
I am about to buy a sat-nav myself which will need to have full European coverage including places like Russia and Turkey , however Iām being told the large screen versions like the Snooper are illegal in Europe (due to the size ) or if not illegal just a good excuse for the authorities to give you a pull to empty your wallet .
So anyone know the score ?..please , no speculation or hearsay , as I donāt want to shell out a hefty amount of cash on something I may not be able to use .Thanks in advance
My Snooper Truckmate Lite packed in mid-shift yesterday which was a bit inconvenient. Itās already been back to Snooper once for a warranty repair, but unfortunately itās now 14 months old and out of warranty. Both times it has overheated.
Upshot is, Iām buying a Tom-Tom one today and will get the Snooper one repaired (Ā£55 including postage) for emergency use only. I wouldnāt recommend a Snooper.

Driving a coach through Europe I have been stopped several times for āRoutine inspectionsā. The French, Dutch, German, Austrian, Italian or Swiss coppers have never even mentioned my 7" Snooper in the windscreen.
Snooper all the way for me, had S7000 for over 2 years and use my old S2000 for backup, no they arenāt perfect, but theyāre right 99.9% of the time, if you donāt like the route it gives you you can easily change it for the one you prefer (if you learn how to use it properly ).

I am guessing you can now put your own POIās on too and update the 10 year old map?
I also guess that now it does not try and send you down āUnsuitable for HGVsā roads in norfolk nowā¦
Tomtom - you can block/unblock a road easily and tap āCalculate Alternativeā and off you go.
Who wants to be spending 10 minutes at the side of a busy road telling a sat nav you cant go down a road it is insistant on sending you down.
Iāve jut got myself a Garmin Car sat nav from argos, half price at Ā£99.99. Nice big screen, blutooth for phone, free lifetime map updates and a few other goodies with it. Oh an I have my truckers map. It lets you programme multiple destinations too.
I have the Snooper S 700, the tv is great, multi channels, you can enter up to 16 multi drops, join your mobile phone up to it to use bluetooth.
Not had a problem with it.Incident and accident avoidance, that gives warning when it happens.
I use a tom tom ,and bible(trucker,s atlas) ,just make a phone call to the drop first ,before you set off make sure everything is ok ,like for example the right BLOODY POSTCODE on paperwork, had a nightmare once when the postcode was wrong so always double check ,with a phone call or the web. always plan before you set offā¦
I have the 79 pound ebay Chinese one and I find it good most of the time it works off windows ce but not sure what actual sat nav software is on windows ce.
Its been very good in Europe and as I mostly drive in London its good as lets you choose from a few different routes but
the big prob is with weights and times as a lot of roads in central London have weight restrictions at certain times and it cant seem to work out this as it just bans you from them as such and if you take the route you know and it has one of these restrictions regardless what time you go down that road it shows a warning āyou are on a restricted route please leaveā and you cant get this warning off the screen thus blocking you from viewing the map / screen so its useless then.
I want to buy a snooper but do these do the same thing ?
show up a warning that you cant get off the screen when you are on a road that it thinks you should nt be on
the only way I found around this is to reduce the weight to 7 ton but that kinda defeats the idea of a truck sat nav
Iāve got a pro nav and think there pretty good although the older pnn300 is the better one in my opinion, i also have two maps, a big one which is easier to glance at whilst driving and another one which has much more detail, ie some weight limits, bridge heights and most ind estates etc which is really handy for finding somewhere to park.
dc2010:
if you have an iphone you can download Navfree GPS UK & ROI + Street View for back up and its free
I have that too and itās a very good sat nav but it can be a pain if you need to use your phone. I can never be sure if itāll pick up where if left off if it gets interrupted. With a separate sat nav it frees up my phone. Plus it can drain your battery if you donāt have a charger.
I have had very bad experiences with the Snooper; after a month I took it back and asked them for my money. Was a bit strange, how quick they gave it back without any question or argument⦠Now I use Tomtom 7000 Truck, highly recommended.
