Deisel-Electric Hybrid trucks, with the ever increasing use of this system in Construction plant and vehicles, is this the way for trucks to go.Anyone with any pics, info or views on them.?
Not too sure they have a place on our roads just yet.
There’s buses but they are much better suited because of the stop start nature of work and city locations they operate in.
A long distance truck wouldn’t reap much benefit as there’s little braking to harvest energy and the electric isn’t enough for much over 8mph.
However, spending many afternoons sat on the M25 crawling, maybe it would reduce emissions and fuel wastage if it were to use electric crawling along.
Hiya Gist distribution have had electric powered Volvos in london for over 2 years. i was on a camping site
i had a spare door of my AEC at the side of my camper. thats when i got talking to this chap who it turned
out worked in the garage from years ago when the company was BOC Transhield. he was telling me about
the Volvo,s. he said they was measured for battery milage useage but the constant stopping and starting
flattened the batteries and the trucks ended up been towed back to the depot.

My info. is that Volvo Truck and Bus agents change the hybrid bus batteries for fun and they are certainly NOT cheap.
Full electric and as such O licence exempt … the run this was used on was Severn Beach to Newport to Cwmbran back to Severn Beach that was the max distance you could go with it … speed was 53 but as soon as you hit the hill coming out of Newport tunnels you were down to 20 which made you vulnerable for rear ending
