Dedicated traffic lanes

It may sound a mad, but would it work by having a lane just for trucks/light vehicles/motorbikes/recreation vehicles and caravans, we all stick in our lanes, big fines if go in somebody elses lane with road side ANPR cameras. No more road rage, and offers of coffee beans by impatient motorists of all kinds.

No.

I hope this helps.

driver at head of queue ambles along at 40 mph, while those behind wanting /needing to be running at 56mph just have to put up with it ■■? i think/hope i`ve misunderstood your post

Time to call the guys with the white coats and a big syringe full of sedative methinks :unamused:

Hell no, what there should be is a minimum motorway speed limit of 60mph for vehicles under 7.5 tonne which is properly enforced, keep the dawdling car drivers at a speed higher than that of trucks.

Agreed, a truck should NEVER have to overtake a car, passed 10 plus of the idiots on Friday dawdling along the M5 from Taunton to Avonmouth :smiling_imp:

Who causes the queues, the trucks overtaking cars or the cars making trucks overtake :unamused:

You missed out - it does, at the start!

oh god no. if you ban trucks from overtaking all it takes is one Tesco/sainsburys/iceland/co-op wagon limited to 50/52 to ■■■■ everyone right off.
I agree that car drivers should be going faster than 56 though. on another forum I frequent, (autoshite.com) one of the posters was complaining that despite him doing 56 in his car, all the “bad lorry drivers who were supposed to be limited to 56 were always overtaking him blocking up the middle lane”. ■■■■■

I blame you for picking him up when you was advised he was a risk to the TNUK community

Yes, it should be 58 mph ! (oh and it’s ridiculous that a coach can do 62 mph on limit and a 3.5t sprinter is stuck at 56 like us)

I think the OP was saying that trucks should have dedicated lanes only for trucks, but can use other lanes too and not just be stuck in that one lane. There is a lane in kent going up a hill which is quite useful, only went up it the once. It’s a truck only lane and takes you past all the standing traffic and through the traffic lights at the top, its a steep hill and it looks like in the wet if a truck stopped on it then you would struggle to get traction to get going hence the truck/bus only lane

What!! And miss out on the excitment of overtaking something - are you mad? My heart skips a beat when that right hand indicator comes on

I was having a right moan to myself about a coach who went past me like he had a rocket and was all over the place due to the wind blowing him. one minute he is in lane 1 and 2 at the same time and he then went for a overtake on a car who was sitting in lane 1 but he passed so close to him the car driver could have touched his coach. The coach was carrying people so why is it that they are allowed to risk the lives of the people on the coach and restrict trucks to 56mph, even though that isn’t the speed limit for trucks on motorways. Saying that we can still get done for speeding by Vosa if we go over our limiters

Certain streches of motorway round Rotterdam are bus & truck only, & work very well in rush hour, but car drivers must get p****d off. lol

In & around parts of Newcastle we have “No car lanes” they work well tbh but cars hate them & bus drier hate the fact we can use them

Agreed

Idea scrapped, back in the nursing home for me then.

Your idea might be workable if we had 4 laned motorways so 2 lanes each

Not just Rotterdam.
