Im decided im officially thick, I bought the books to do part one (multi-choice) of my cpc, I then bought the cds and I still can’t remember most of the information.
My idea was to do the multi-choice and then go into the class room do the second part.
Did any one else try like this? If so how did you do, how did you remember all the information?
Well Ive just finished the cpc as I done it along with my class 2 training.
Being that Im new to lorry driving, I found the first part of it (the theory) was relatively straight forward, It was scenarios, in which you basically use your common sense, there was not a lot that reading/revision taught me, but if you already drive a truck or have even just passed your test, it all seemed to relate to what id already learnt while driving and reading etc. I was reading DSA guide to heavy goods vehices.
The second part (the pratical) I had a few hours in the classroom, again they didnt really teach me much, just what to expect the test to involve, but I wouldnt have missed it, learnt the little things that I would have missed being new to trucks. e.g on the daily checks, walkaround checks, where/what to look for drugs, illegal immigrants etc. Oh and they have some loadings/restraint questions on the day at the classroom, as I was a total newbie, I learnt how to use all the different restraints and for what loads etc…
Think he means the operator cpc not the drivers cpc.
I did my national/international cpc out of a book and only showed up at the training centre for the exams.
It was hard work with no one to fire questions at but if you dedicate time and effort to it it’s perfectly achieve able.
I found that I had to basically timetable study time and stick to it. Don’t just dip in and out but literally spend a good few hours learning each part.
I’m allegedly not thick (academically) but I think it was a fairly hard subject if you don’t already have experience of operating a haulage business.
I passed my national cpc years ago doing a weeks course with the exam at the end of the week, last year my boss suggested I do international, so as he was paying I thought “why not”
Home study in between work wasn’t the way to go and after 2 failures we decided I should give up…
I just wish I would’ve done the international at the same time I did my national as I was younger and i would’ve been able to dedicate the time to it but there you go…
Good luck
I found the national easy enough and passed first time, the international however is the most boring, turpid, useless guff and acronym I’ve ever come across. I failed the first time, I could only be bothered reading it once the week before, thought I’d put more effort in the second time but alas couldn’t face reading it more than once, awaiting another fail:)
People moan about eastern euros coming over here in there poorly maintained trucks with tired drivers and no operator qualifications or easily bought ones & side swiping people in cars on the 25 but stop established national hauliers get a crack of the whip because of a folder full of largely useless BS that you could google or ask on here the down low before shipping out each trip anyway!
