Death Valley

Does anyone know why Death Valley on the M62 is so called?

AFAIK, it’s because it was one of the first motorways to have 4 narrow lanes, and there were quite a few accidents at the time.

Typed on a laptop, in a layby near Uttoxeter :sunglasses:

up until a few years ago when it was widened, it used to endure big accidents nearly every friday night.

IIRC some of our Rochdale drivers referred to it as “death valley” because fog could settle in the bottom fairly sudden like and it caused many pile ups. Bewick.

have you seen it when its foggy ?

thats a good question id like to know that myself …

The fog dose come down realy fast and some times it can be realy bad. In the past there as been a lot of bad crash,s because of the fog.

I have known it as Death valley almost as long as it has been there, so not sure it has anything to do with death at all. The same reason why the other bit is called Windy Hill
