The training gravy train! Fantastic! Iām off to book a course to be a Consultant DCPC. Apparently they are more important so can charge more too. Keep it a secret thoā - thereās limited quantities of bull shine to go around!

Driving a truck safely and legally is not rocket science. Almost anybody can be taught to do it. The biggest problem, in my opinion, is getting enough quality sleep between periods of duty. Tired drivers make bad decisions no matter how much ātrainingā they receive.
FWIW Shep I think you have an impossible job. You may be trying to make a difference and charging reasonable prices for good courses. Itās just that you are dragged down by others less scrupulous than yourself and find you are constantly having to defend the indefensible.

I donāt really get the point of this thread. The op is not a question itās a statement and therefore I was expecting some sort of explanation to clarify the statement.
True truck driving isnāt rocket science, but can anybody really be trained to do it? Iām not so sure judging by what I see.
But if they can then it would probably require a dam site more training than we already get.
I think many trainers are going to have an impossible job, because so many of the people they are training are going to be untrainable, and will just continue to to carry on as before with the same false idea, but this time theyāll just say the trainer told me when challegned. Of they might be drivers whoāve been driving for years, but I know drivers whoāve been doing the job years who I wouldnāt just with a wheelbarrow let alone a truck.
Think there are many professions where the good get tarred with the same brush as the bad, including truck driving.

How? Apparently by driving vehicles that had bad statās for killing vulnerable road users in built up areas

Perfectly true - but this is the same for almost any industry or job.
Are professional drivers not ādragged downā by those of a lesser standard and therefore unwanted training thrust upon them and all tarred with the same brush? I know plenty of most excellent drivers but I know more that ⦠well you know what I mean
Drivers come on here and defend the idea that DCPC isnāt needed. For them maybe not - for others itāll take more than a bit of training.
Police - mostly considered to be err ⦠what words should I use? But some are great. Same goes for VOSA etc etc etc
i got told by one the other day to put my hi vis on, despite me wearing hi viz bottoms best thing was he was driving thro a yard with no hazards on, till i reminded him
The DCPC as i have said before is a totally discredited and worthless qualification for the following obvious reasons;
Those who present the courses do not need any qualifications what so ever to deliver them,except the cash to spend for a week at the RHA going through powerpoint presentations and listing to stories of all the money that can be made from driversā¦ā the nearer to 2014 the more you can chargeā ā you can make a mint!ā
There are no exams to pass or boxes to tick, you can literally sleep the whole day and have your hours uploaded-this in itself makes it worthless.
What gets most Drivers is the patronising nature of the courses which as one RHA course presenter said to me ā idiot levelā going through basic manoeuvres as if we were all children.
For gods sake being told how to use ratchet straps or reverse into a yard makes the course farcical and nothing more than a tick box go through the motions exercise.
We have to do it, so lets not pretend itās more than what it is- a complete waste of time and more importantly money for drivers and employers alike.
I suspect from talking to many drivers that many hours have been uploaded to drivers who have never set one foot in a class room-a nice little earner yeah-shep

OK - come on - get yer facts right.
To become a DCPC trainer you donāt even NEED to attend a RHA course. You donāt NEED to have ANY actual qualifications. All you need is a certificate of experience and a certificate of knowledge signing by someone like a company director. Check it out - the appropriate certificates are part of the paperwork supplied by JAUPT. All you do is get yer mate to sign to say you know what youāre talking about. Simples!
As for no exams and no tests ⦠I couldnāt agree more. bring on the exams - more money for me with all those resits
Sleeping in the classroom? if you want to spend your Ā£60 and go sleep thatās up to you. If I was spending my own Ā£60 Iād want to at least take part. Iāve not had one asleep yet.
Most employers I deal with are actually seeing the benefit of āsomeā of the training.
Training hours being uploaded without driver attendance? I do hope you arenāt suggesting I am involved in that? Those that have done this and are possibly still doing it will be caught. Those drivers that attended will lose the hours.
Nice little earner? What and sitting on yer backside for half the day at some RDC isnāt?

Is it in the Risk Assessment to have hazards on - in which case does the Assessment consider denying otherās using the yard any idea of what direction he is, or intends to turn?
Itās just that ants with disco hazards in yards often bemuse me, what with the lights being more of a hazard than their worth.
