Do you need a DCPC to move trucks on Trade Plates between truck dealers sites … asking for a friend ?
He has his HGV 1 and currently has his DCPC … but this expires in Sept.
He has been offered some work moving trucks … mostly units between a truck dealers various sites, using Trade Plates … the question is … does he need to re-new his DCPC to continue to do this … he doesn’t do any work involving driving LOADED trucks for “hire & reward”.
This is only ad-hoc work and he was just wondering if he could continue to do this … without forking-out to do DCPC again ?
I would say that he needs DCPC for this work. The P stands for professional ,if he is being paid he will have to be “qualified”.

It seems from the above that if the destination depots are within 62 miles of the depot he is employed at and he mostly does other work then no.
Otherwise, yes.
Are the lorries taxed and road legal?
No…
You also don’t need Driver CPC if the vehicle being driven is either new or rebuilt and hasn’t yet been taxed.
Yes…
Example 3: delivering newly-registered and taxed lorries
A driver delivers newly-registered and taxed lorries to customers after they’ve been painted in the customer’s livery. They need Driver CPC, as vehicles count as being ‘put into service’ once they’re taxed
