DCPC rouge traders

Well I knew it would happen eventually, and it has to my little brother.
Keen to make sure that he was all above board and didn’t get involved in the ‘CPC rush’, off he went to get his CPC out of the way and booked, paid for and attended his full course, held over 6 weeks in the Reading area in a class room 1 day a week with 15 other drivers.
Anyway after finishing the course no certificate or card arrived from the dvla, vosa or whoever it’s meant to come from, so he chased it up to be told there is no record of him attending any course. He checked the details of the trainer and they were legit so he called the trainer to find out what was happening, only to be told that the trainer in question has never done this course, and never even been to Reading!
So what happens now?? My little brother is down by £400 and is looking for blood!

If he paid by credit card he should be able to claim this back from the card provider.

Harry, he paid cash, conveniently the card machine wasn’t working!!!

He wont be the only one theres at least another 15 drivers in the same boat, has he tried to contact any of the other guys that were on the “course”. I would think if you could get together and pool whatever info you all have you may have enough information for Trading Standards or the Police to be involved.

Although I would think that the bogus trainers are already setting up in another part of the country.
Did he pay up front ? If so I’m very surprised that he was able to do the full course over 6 weeks with 15 other drivers without becoming suspicious that the whole thing was a scam. It seems very elaborate.
If the money was paid 1st I would have thought the scammers would do maybe 1 day and then not be seen again

Agree with TW.

Think you need to look into this a bit further, but once sure its a scam, post as many details here as possible.

As TW intimates, if they’ve stayed around & actually provided the whole course it would seem to indicate some legitimacy.

Think a bit more digging is needed.

If it does turn out to be a scam, then yes involve Trading Standards (or whatever they’re calling themselves this week. Consumer direct?) and Police as its a fraudulent theft.

Firstly he must have got a receipt for the cash he paid?
Also did he check the company to make sure they are JAUPT accredited?
When you do a course the company has 5 days to register it 2 days if through the RTITB. you should get your certificate from the company within a week.
Where was the course held, will it have CCTV of everyone coming and going.
unless he has proof of attendance i think he will have to do another 35 hrs.
I would book another course with this company under a bogus name and then ask the question infront of his whole class i would then do this every week to put him out of business.

Calling the police is ok but a good kicking off 15 drivers is the only way he wil learn.

Ive got a question i know the course material and the course venue has to be accredited by juapt or what ever they’re called but does the trainer need to be accredited? And if he does do they get some form of identification a card of some sort?

This whole thing is a farce and now we have 15 drivers conned, which could be avoided if drivers actually had a clue about the process had some sort of way of checking the balance of their hours instantly online.

Excellent. I like it a lot

Think you ought to name names so others can be aware and avoid if this is a scam!

Was this driver cpc or operator cpc ?

6 days is too many for 35 hours of driver cpc as the days have to be 7 hours !

As much as i agree with naming and shaming we have to be 100% it is a scam first.

Instructors are registered with the JAUPT but no card is issued. however in all the years i have been training i have never been asked to prove i am who i say i am.

JAUPT are now doing unannounced visits on trainers. i had one the other week so make sure you take correct id with you as last year you may have been allowed to sit. this year you will probably be turned away.

If the bloke is a con man i hope he is delt with. this is not on at all.

Also when booking a course like flt training for CPC make sure you say are you JAUPT accredited. if you just as if their accredited they will say yes but will mean ITSSAR. DCPC must be JAUPT.

Here’s another rouge trader to look out for!

It sounds like an operator CPC to me Denis, the next exam is on the 2nd December. I would be making sure the OP is not booked on any exam by calling OCR pronto.

Very good, but I prefer this one

i thought we had finally found someone to do us a full driver cpc course for a £100 bung, i will have to keep looking

Yes but in this instance the spelling is rather important because by changing the positioning of two letters it has created a completely different word with an entirely different meaning.

If anybody is posting and you aren’t sure of a spelling, just open another window, go to Google & stick in how you think its spelt, then hit search. Even if you’ve misspelled it, Google will find the correct spelling for you.

However in this case I suspect its no more than an oh-so-easy done typo on behalf of the OP.

I read a long on line report about a horrible murder trial in the DM & the first readers comment was.‘You put the comma in the wrong place!’ …Shocking!!

The bigest rouge traders are the EU who thought it up together with the WTD.
