DCPC for car drivers

What would you include on the course after they have passed the driving test, here are mine for starters ;
How to change tyres, how many times have you seen them call out the Rac, as some have no clue.
Night driving.
Motorway driving.
Laws and tips of driving abroad.
How to change a battery.
Drive a coach and a Lgv on private land for a day.
Caravan reversing course.
Drive a car on a wet racing track to test braking skills.
How to drive an Audi and Bmw.

Some have no spare wheel.

Some vehicles do not come with a spare wheel as part of the original equipment.

Some suffer more than one puncture at a time.

Some suffer more than one puncture in a day before they have had a chance to replace the tyre on the spare wheel.

Why would this be a problem? If they’d rather pay than do it themselves that’s up to them

toby1234abc:
Night driving.

Yes

toby1234abc:
Motorway driving.

Most definetely yes!

toby1234abc:
Laws and tips of driving abroad.

Why? Ive never driven abroad and never will. Maybe make it a requirement if your going abroad but no need as a compulsery

toby1234abc:
How to change a battery.

Again,why?

toby1234abc:
Drive a coach and a Lgv on private land for a day.

Maybe not drive but get taught the differences for when you encounter them deffo

toby1234abc:
Caravan reversing course.

No need for this one either unless your planning on towing. Maybe part of a C1 course?

toby1234abc:
Drive a car on a wet racing track to test braking skills.

Yep

toby1234abc:
How to drive an Audi and Bmw.

Tongue in cheek I presume
Id also add
non passenger carrying (slinging a bit of wood from b and q into the boot and driving off unsecured is all to common,as is tying bits of metal with an old phone charger)
speed awareness
drink/drug driving
Smith system. Some car drivers dont look further than the bonnet badge
Parking. Why you dont park on top of the white line, why you cant park on double yellows just coz you’ve stuck your hazards on,why picking your kids up from school doesn’t suddenly mean its ok to park anywhere you ■■■■■■■ well like

Well it would probably take a few people off the road if they had to do 35 hours in a class room and pay about £300 every 5 years!
Would probably make the roads a little safer too.
Lol @ how to drive a BMW or audi.

If it was going to be any use, and with the lorry drivers CPC we’ve got nothing to shout about, then it should include some actual vehicle control practical stuff.

On a proper but damp slippery course (like a salted damp evening road would be), all drivers should have to make normal progress with ABS any vehicle stability electronics in the vehicle they are licensed to drive switched off, including having to make controlled hard stops and take evasive action manoeuvers.

This should also be the case with vocational drivers of HGV and PSV persuasion, show real vehicle feel handling and competence in their respective vehicles.

So not only do psv and hgv holders do cpc to hold your vocational licence you want all car drivers to have training too.
More of my hard earned wonga gone

Needs graduated licencing and compulsory safe driving assessments every so often

Might not get all to be great drivers but would get then to think about their driving every few years

After years of honing my few driving skills on the basis that drivers of cars and some large vehicles have no clue what they are doing thus putting the onus on me to make progress in a calm and collected manner whilst at the same time trying to inconvenience as few motorists as possible, the last thing I want is far them to start knowing what they are doing and having a crack at signalling on roundabouts amongst other things.

The speed awareness courses do help pass on some knowledge though and even the wife who took one for me (points for me vs getting her to do course so no brainer), found it made her more aware of signs, speed limits and hazards… etc

skid pan. a lot of crashes are due to skidding so teaching them not only to control a skid but also how to avoid getting into one in the first place would save a lot of delays to the rest of us

DCPC for car drivers would never happen, simple, authority have us by the bxxxxxxs that’s how they can get us HGV drivers all the time,ie get your DCPC or you wont be allowed by law to drive HGVs,can you imagine doing that to every car driver in this country, they threaten us with the law and we have no choice because we all have bills to pay and if all we know is driving [like me]then we don’t have a choice but to get the DCPC,i realise as you say its imagination but it would never happen for car drivers
