Just talking to the wife and explaining all the things that i read on here about dcpc. She is a school teacher and she can’t get it that after 26 years driving trucks I have got to get qualified to keep my licence, she said what if the same thing happened with teachers or police or anybody who has qualified to do the job they do and it got me thinking what is the difference between other people and us who drive trucks why can they just plod on doing there jobs while we keep getting fed (zb)
Don’t teachers have to do periodic training…baker days, I think they were called?
Yes ok they do but they get paid for going and it’s not out of hours it’s just getting to me the crap we have to put with in this job but it’s hard to look elsewhere when it’s all I’ve ever done starting to feel a bit trapped

Hi A l c,
Your wife might know it as Continuous Professional Development (CPD.)
The idea of CPD isn’t new, and there are many professions in which a person has to re-qualify or show evidence of re-training/refreshing every so often.
BTW, you don’t lose your LGV licence if you don’t do the 35hrs periodic DCPC.
All you lose for not having a DQC card (on 10th Sept 2014 in your case) is the right to drive LGVs commercially.
Only a Court or a Traffic Commissioner can actually take your LGV entitlement from you if you’ve been naughty, and in that case, it wouldn’t matter if you did/didn’t complete your 35hrs and have your DQC card.
Mrs Socketset was a self employed accountant - she had to do the hoop jumping etc etc at her own time and expense, just to show she was up to speed with all the latest Government twaddle.

Our DCPC is done “in house” so we get paid (and fed/watered), and we get a day “off work”

slightly off topic but showing how we are treated different to the rest of the working population comming of the boat into Fleetwood we would be pulled reguarly and have to fill out a boarding card while doing this your licence or passport were taken away and a criminal records check carried out on you to see if you had anything outstanding. On the third sunday on the trot of doing this i asked the copper if they ever went into an office block and asked all there to prove who they were and carry out a records check the answer “don’t be daft we couldn’t do that” I am sure that we are no more criminals than the rest of the population mmmm well possibly!

Hmmm, Interesting…my other half is a school teacher as well and when I told her about it she said they have to go something similar(periodic training) and they dont just have to attend. They have to pass.
Can you not understand why they have brought the dcpc in? I think you should have to sit a test to pass and also they should have a driving assessment which again you have to pass.
To much complacency from longer serving drivers!

In fact the chinless, dribbling maniac that is the Secretary of State for Education, Mr Gove, has proposed that teachers who do not meet their CPD targets should not get any pay progression.

Why not cut your thread introduction and paste it to your MP via this link.
Maybe ask why politicians from the Lib’s-fibs, the Lab(ia) and the Consters are 100% content and in constant cahoots to always ■■■■ up to unaccountable & expensive, EU bell-pieces in Brussels.
Also, tell them that you - to whom they ARE (allegedly) accountable and who possibly has hitherto voted for pro-EU candidates - will not vote for a pro-EU politician ever again.
It’ll cost you little more than five minutes of keyboard time
Pse keep us info’d - because I loathe the DCPC too
