Puntastic!!..I used to go into their place in Newmarket quite a bit,I have heard the figure of 500 drivers banded around that will be shown the door (plastic flaps)…seems a bit of an exaggeration though tbh  but very sad indeed for those involved, all the same.

I saw one of their trucks coming up the M11 on Tuesday evening… Wonder if the driver knew then or was heading back to his depot to find out?

It’s not the time to joke when so many drivers are scratchings for work

Been around for a while. Will be interesting to hear what circumstances brought them to this state of affairs.

My guess is that, like many of the old time companies that have been running since the days when just being in business meant a healthy, easy profit, they struggled to adapt to the more modern ethos that returning a profit now is a difficult thing to do for any company. Looking back at many of the companies I worked for over the years with their laid back attitude, I doubt they would be able to maintain that business model now. Even some of the companies that rushed us around like nutters on the powder tanks, it paid well, very well at the time, but I doubt they could match that now.

I did post about this at the beginning of the week but the post was removed for some reason.

I work for DBC Chelmsford on the night trunk, we were advised by the company last month, that there were no problems and it was business as usual, although the warehouses were getting low on stock!! On Monday 19th March, we were told that the company was up for sale and there were lots of interested parties. We came into work on sunday night to find a notice saying that discussions were taking place with a number of parties and that a conclusion to this would be conluded week starting 26th and we would be notified before friday 30th!

On Tuesday at 12.30 the Administrators walked into every DBC depot and took control, all drivers were told not to come in the next day and to sit by the phones, on Wednesday over half of the staff recieved a call from the administrators telling them they were redundant, i am still waiting to be told but at the moment still being paid by the administrators for sitting at home although we have not been paid this week by DBC as they have no money!!

At Chelmsford the number of drivers was 27 and there were around 80 staff overall, each of the depots had a similar number so there are going to be around 1500 people out of work in the next week!

Very sad day and the directors & Hr dept should be ashamed of what has happened, they buried there heads in the sand over the last few months instead of sorting out this mess :unamused: :unamused: now we all have to find another job in a difficult climate and it aint gonna be easy

If that was an MAN artic & Trailer that was me on last night run with 4 Plts on!!

I don’t think the HR department are responsible for the companies performance and although many times they are blamed as they could have let people know, they are very often told to say nothing or actually don’t know anything themselves. Don’t forget they are looking for a job as well. The directors on the other hand…

My dad used to work for them as an accountant in the Manchester office, I remember when they bought out Stocks Lovell (the company he was working for at the time), but have just realised that is going back some years.

Sorry to hear what’s happened Gov and a bit surprising considering how long they’ve been around.

such a shame when jobs are lost, there is usually a dbc truck park up on a1 near biggleswade most nights
lets hope they all get jobs.

Used to frequent the Washington branch with sacks of flour.

Great guys on the goods in.

Sorry to hear of your tales of woe at such a bad time.

Ken.

I saw the yard full yesterday as I went past on the A12.

Bit of a shame really, the job wasn’t really my bag but it was a good start for me as a new driver when I needed one and I have to admit it was probably a better bet than a lot of others. I learnt a lot in a little bit of time and generally found that the other drivers were patient and helpful.

saw one of their artics on the M42 southbound by Birmingham airport today, it is the only one i have seen for a while though

I am on standby to move stock from our warehouse next week to whoever buys it off of us, will be the last time the chelmsford artic runs!!
At the moment im sitting at home looking for jobs and going to a few interviews while still being paid by the administrators. Just waiting for the call to go in, told might not be till next week sometime, but if anyones looking for a decent Class 1 driver based around Essex, point them in my direction

Do you know someone then?

Sad to see more guys on the dole!!

used to go in the one at wathe upon dearne, though one day i went in full and came out empty, went back to my base to see a DBC wagon getting unloaded with returns that my load had replaced, and he went back to his yard empty!

They should have stayed in Selby and ran their trucks a bit longer
