Any one else when you’ve worked days been tempted or have worked through a break with tacho set to break ?
I have done may occasions on multi drop home deliveries [emoji17] but since changing to a semi tramping job and driving same. Truck all time I take my breaks properly (with a Cuppa ) and feet up
Have to admit I’ve done it many times in the past when it’s suited me, I’ve always had the break as soon as I could or as soon as it suited though.
i do multi drop work but never tip on break,it can massively back fire especially if you have to log arrival and departure times…nah it’s not for me.
Got infringement for not doing it,but Break is Break

Used to do donkeys years ago when I was young and stupid but then I realised that all I was doing was taking money out of my own pocket and at the overtime rate too. 45 minutes worked with the tacho on break is 45 minutes of overtime pay out of my pocket. If I do that 5 days a week I’ve lost the thick end of £60. Do that every week for a year and I’ve robbed myself of the thick end of £3,000. All of a sudden that working on break doesn’t look so clever.
If it suits me I’ll do it (job and knock day rate, so it usually does), my deliveries usually take about an hour each on 2 or 3 a shift so it’s easy enough to show a plausible amount of other work if questioned. If it’s expected of me operationally by the company to squeeze more work into the shift I won’t.
I’m put under no pressure so generally do tip on break reasoning I’d rather have an extra 45 minutes at home. That said if I need a proper break I’ll take one.
I shall probably burn in eternal fires of damnation but hey ho.
I do whatever suits me personally at the time. Sometimes I stop for a break after two or three hours if I’m tired or hungry etc when there is no legal need to do so, other times I’ll use the time spent tipping/loading on break to crack on and get where I want to be. On a long day that was often the difference between reaching my desired ■■■■■■■■■■■■ for the night within my 13/15 spread, or not doing so due to having to stop for a 45 and then parking somewhere without so much as toilet facilities. As I said, I do what suits me and planning ahead what I want out of the day and where I want to be parked etc.
I’ve always been on a day rate so the hourly paid consideration hasn’t been an issue and while day rate pay isn’t ideal if you’re doing a 15, for every 15 I did, it was balanced off with a 6-8 hour day somewhere else so I did like the certainty of knowing what’d be in my bank each and every week.
depends on what sort of day im having or if i need to get back ie: end of week of if im going somwhere unpredictable … london
nine times out of ten im going to be ok but those odd time where everything gets away from you. or when you feel youve been STITCHED UP… !!
I used to do it, back in my handball days on 7.5s and rigids, purely and simply to get home. Could have tossed it off, but I was in a day cab, and despite having a Premier Inn card, I had no washing gear or clean clothes.
Just like Paul, did it loads on handball-job and knock work especially on nights out. I don’t need to now but I will have the crafty 15 minute to satisfy wtd rules when loading myself. I get the breaktime back later anyway.
