Day Off - but where ? (Solved by Stuart 0366)

Try this

Rye?

Arundel (spelling) ?

Hawkhurst?

Ken.

All no, no & no so far, but Rye has connections

Whoops! Sorry I must have double clicked

Clue time

Beyond the arch is a tidal river, and this was a major port :unamused:

Bristol ?

lightforce:
Bristol ?

Not Bristol, 8wheels was closest so far, and the connection with Rye should have got it

Rye Harbour ?

Suedehead:
Rye Harbour ?

Not Rye Harbour, wrong county but close… :unamused:

How about Hythe…but I am known to be a total idiot

Not there yet, but could be getting closer (There is more than one Hythe, which one do you mean?)

New Romney

Suedehead:
New Romney

Not New Romney, no river or port there, but close

The only tidal river I can think of in the area is the Stour which would make the port Sandwich (rye connection :unamused:)

Meant Hythe just outside of Folkestone btw

Spot on Stuart, it is Sandwich

It is the Stour, Sandwich and Rye are both historic Cinque Ports cinqueports.org/

Devious connection also with Rye - rye bread used for sandwich

Dammit I would have got that.

Just beyond the arch is the old toll bridge and further up on the right is the yard where I practised my reversing for my class 1 way back in the 1980s.

The whole area is Pfizers now from what I hear. Ain’t been that way for years.

I used to deliver to

“The Sandwich School”

I know it’s sad but it always made me chuckle.

There is a village very close to Sandwich called “Ham”, one of the finger type road signs between the 2 has fingers pointing to Ham and Sandwich in opposite directions - one day I will stop and take a photgraph
