Day cabs

OK, time for a bit of willy-waving.

I drove this day-cabbed :open_mouth: FL10 from Chessington to Tbilisi, Georgia, around 1996. It took three weeks to get there.

Anyone ever been further in a day cab?

Can’t compete with that Harry, in Jan08 I took a day cab 7.5 tonner to Jerez in Spain. I remember before I’d driven a sleeper cab I would’ve found the MAN cab big (compared to a TK Bedford) but after driving modern high roofed sleeper cab artics for years it was a little bit of a squeeze!!

Ross.

I cannot claim the honour, it was my mate Rod who took a day cab Charles Alexander 3300 FTG to Istanbul, not once but twice, until he could get the other bit welded on.

You sure it was FL 10 Harry ?
I know my eyesight isnt what it was but that looks like an FL 7 ?

You are right- it was so ephemeral that I didn’t even remember what it was!

I had one night across the seats in Bulgaria, but otherwise it was in whatever hotel I found along the way. Bland ones in MSAs for the first part, more interesting ones further on.

No chance of sleeping in the tank I’m afraid, it was so small that I had to fill it up two or three times a day

I"ll bet there were . . . fnar fnar :sunglasses:

I can’t claim any honours in this subject, but I do remember a guy (Ron) who ran out of Ramsgate doing Italy in a red day-cabbed Foden (ex Celcon.)

He usually ran two-up with another driver to share the driving. :open_mouth:

I think you might remember him Harry, cos weren’t you out of Ramsgate or close by at around the same time??
IIRC, it would be around 1985ish.

Bob, a driver I currently work with, once took a mobile crane from London to Baghdad for an exhibition. He was supposed to fly home as the crane was remaining there after the exhibition but he kept the fare and got a lift home with another driver. I’ve seen the pictures he took on that trip and the cab was not exactly big. Those were just a few of the many interesting photographs he has taken over the years of trips to the ME and various ‘stans’. He has a lot of good stories and him and I have talked about doing a book of his adventures one day.

If your own book is anything to go by, it should be a good read.
Less talking, more action required I think mate :stuck_out_tongue:
