Day 2. New driver diary

Well, I posted on Saturday about my first day at my new job and I said I’d post again as soon as I could to report on each day.

Today was my first day proper and I was due to go to Scotland this morning. However, things didn’t go according to plan.

I got into the yard at 4am today. Got my stuff stashed in the cab then sorted my tacho out. Popped the front grill and checked fluids. Jumped in the cab and fired her up and immediatley noticed that it had NO fuel in it at all. When I parked it up there was a quarter tank. I jumped out the cab and had a look at the tank to find it had been raped! :imp: Someone had broken in over the weekend and removed the walkway from over the tank and then pulled out the sender unit to gain access to the fuel. It was bone dry. I legged it back around to the ignition and shut it down.

It took almost 4 hours to get someone to come look at it and then they needed a new sender unit which didn’t come until late this afternoon. When they had got it re-built they tried to start it but no joy. As the truck had been ticking over whilst I checked the tank, it had drained the pipes and needed bleeding. By 5pm I’d had enough and told the gaffer I’m off home and I’d set off in the morning. ‘Get yourself off’ he says. Phone call to the wife and she’s on her way to collect me.

After 13 hours sat around in a cold cab I’m finally home and starting to thaw out. I guess the lesson learnt today is to do my walk around before I start the truck. Or I could just electrify the fence so they don’t make it in next time. Low life scum!

So, after much build up, I didn’t drive the truck a single foot today. Fingers crossed I have a more productive day tommorow.

I’ll post again when I can.

Gloria.

Hope you have a better start tomorrow, it’s a bit colder up there (scotland) so go well prepared :bulb: go carefully & enjoy the trip, happy trucking

oh man thats a pain in the backside, i was looking 4ward to the update…oh well hopefully tomorrow…may be dumb question but why did you have to sit in a cold cab, did the night heater not work?

The word “oh” comes to mind!

The night heater runs off diesil and the tank was empty.
