With the weather changing to Autumn and getting chilly at night plus the fact we have our annual TB test on Monday the steers are now brought in to Winter quarters, moved up with the DAF as this is the safest way, they are definitely bigger but as I see them every day I do not notice them changing size but they weighed heavy in the truck thats for sure, had to do four loads for the 18, fingers and every thing else crossed for a clear test.
They’re looking well John it seems to have been a good summer for them, we brought another 36 in today and the calves have done really well this year. We took them some haylage this last week as they were about eaten up but for once the weather has been kind, just a few still out at home but they will be in as and when the weather dictates.
Most of the yows are now tupped so hopefully they will hold and we will be in for a reasonably tight lambing, nowt worse than lambing for months on end.
Cheers Wrighty.
Another half load..
Hey up Wrighty the weather is a bit on the turn now getting cold at night, how did you do wi your tups you sold, Will wait for the result of TB test and then decide if to hold or sell, got some haylage but straw is dear down here, every body panicking but some late silage made will ease the situation, prices for that will come down as what’s being asked just now is far too expensive
Andrew into Italy splash and dash.
That cauli must have had some preservative in it! ![]()

We got all four tups sold with a top price of £1600, not brilliant but they all went so that will do.
Got all but a few cattle inside now and they will be in shortly, off to Leyburn with two bulls and a heifer tomorrow so we will see how they do. Like you say straw is a fair price at the moment, I know of one sale where a barn full of barley straw made £125 per tonne add on haulage rates and it makes it strong money..
Had a nice ride up to Campbeltown on Monday to tip a load of concrete panels at a farm, and what a wild night it was up there wind and rain all night talk about being rocked to sleep.
Cheers Wrighty.
Hey up Wrighty pleased to say that me Charolais passed the TB test so a relief all round, they average 615 kgs so they need to go on to a finishing yard so that’s the next move.
Its been verified by Horry that we did own this 141 ex Watts of Carlisle, bought two from Malcomb Harrison one Sunday morning, Mappo drove it on traction for STS back in the day and it went like stink.
Working from home and making a good job of it but doesn’t seem right not being out there getting the lay of the land.
Three on a weekend break at Tracy Island so I took in emergency supplies, a dozen house favourite sausages and some spuds and look what the chef turned it into, troop moral is key. Dont know who the chef was but looks good to me, Buzzer
Good day in the office today, sold my Charolais steers in Exeter Market a first time there for me and they topped the market, sent them down Thursday afternoon for bed & breakfast for Friday sale, was well worth the effort as it turns out.

Well it has to be said it is bloody wet up ere now, thankfully all the cattle are tucked up in the sheds living the life of riley.
Most of the yows are now tupped so will have to wait until early Jan until we scan them to see how many lambs we can expect come March. This is our quietest time of the year now with a few to calve but mostly routine jobs.
Had a good day at the auction today achieving the top price of £3800 for a bull which went for breeding and £2500 for a bull which went to be finished.
Cheers Wrighty.
Eh up Wrighty your right there its time to turn tap off we got enough of the wet now, its nice when you have a good day at auction, I never went to watch mine sold but saw it on Marteye which we have never viewed before and must say it were good, in the end the 18 I sold averaged £2354 apiece so well chuffed with that result. Already seen pictures of this years stirks from the same place so cant wait to go and try and buy them, Buzzer
My mate from the IOW bought this wagon in Scotland second hand, the chap he bought it from replaced it with a new 8 wheel Scania new box £360K

Another good day at Hawes auction store sale, first prize heifer and reserve champion which went on to sell for £2440 not too bad for 14 months old.
Rest of the day spent mucking sheds out and spreading muck, at least it was dry if a bit on the chilly side…
Cheers Wrighty.
