Davies Int. Southampton. With photos (Part 2)

With the weather changing to Autumn and getting chilly at night plus the fact we have our annual TB test on Monday the steers are now brought in to Winter quarters, moved up with the DAF as this is the safest way, they are definitely bigger but as I see them every day I do not notice them changing size but they weighed heavy in the truck thats for sure, had to do four loads for the 18, fingers and every thing else crossed for a clear test.

They’re looking well John it seems to have been a good summer for them, we brought another 36 in today and the calves have done really well this year. We took them some haylage this last week as they were about eaten up but for once the weather has been kind, just a few still out at home but they will be in as and when the weather dictates.

Most of the yows are now tupped so hopefully they will hold and we will be in for a reasonably tight lambing, nowt worse than lambing for months on end.

Cheers Wrighty.

Another half load..

Hey up Wrighty the weather is a bit on the turn now getting cold at night, how did you do wi your tups you sold, Will wait for the result of TB test and then decide if to hold or sell, got some haylage but straw is dear down here, every body panicking but some late silage made will ease the situation, prices for that will come down as what’s being asked just now is far too expensive

Andrew into Italy splash and dash.

Matt shipping out of Dover to Southern France this afternoon

That cauli must have had some preservative in it!

Evening Buzzer

We got all four tups sold with a top price of £1600, not brilliant but they all went so that will do.

Got all but a few cattle inside now and they will be in shortly, off to Leyburn with two bulls and a heifer tomorrow so we will see how they do. Like you say straw is a fair price at the moment, I know of one sale where a barn full of barley straw made £125 per tonne add on haulage rates and it makes it strong money..

Had a nice ride up to Campbeltown on Monday to tip a load of concrete panels at a farm, and what a wild night it was up there wind and rain all night talk about being rocked to sleep.

Cheers Wrighty.

Hey up Wrighty pleased to say that me Charolais passed the TB test so a relief all round, they average 615 kgs so they need to go on to a finishing yard so that’s the next move.

Its been verified by Horry that we did own this 141 ex Watts of Carlisle, bought two from Malcomb Harrison one Sunday morning, Mappo drove it on traction for STS back in the day and it went like stink.
