We aint got any mountains here on the farm in West Dorset but do have some nice weather now and again. So today the 20th November it was time for a very late cut of grass.

Any crop is a bonus this year, we are about 20% down this year but we had quite a bit left over from last year so we should be ok.

No chance of any cropping up ere sheep are eating any grass, and we had a covering of snow on Tuesday and now it’s freezing again.

Busy three days trucking this week started off from the yard on Monday over to Hebden bridge for a tractor then down to Blandford Forum with 5 ton of concrete panels, then over to Basingstoke and tipped a straw chopper and parked up for the night. Got up Tues morning to a soggy tyre on mi drive axle, turned out to be a cracked rim so got on the road at 10am. Then down to Billingshurst with the tractor and then up to Dorking for two 17m telehandlers, tipped them at Newchurch Romney marsh and then ran over to Canterbury for another telehandler. Tipped at Swindon on Wed morning then ran back to Reading and loaded 2 Unimogs and then ran back up home.

Sandway welcome aboard, my goodness that is late in the year to make haylage but every little helps eh. Wrighty see you are well busy but trust the white stuff dont help things at home and we are lucky down here and not seen any of that yet although it did threaten the other day. Well I must admit gloves have been required this last couple of days, doesn’t sound like we will need them in the morning as it’s forecast to warm up and come wet..

Sorting yows today according to tup colours, early lambers and later lambers into separate bunches so they can be fed ready for lambing.

Only fly in the ointment today was our Massey 5465 requiring a new water pump, rang our local dealer yesterday afternoon and they were in the yard this morning sorting it..

It can’t have been NZ lamb JD :wink: Anne will buy nothing else nowadays as the last British lamb we ever bought was local salt marsh from our farmers market in Kendal and it was terrible and EXPENSIVE ! How can the NZ sheep farmers ship lamb half way around the world and price for price knock our GB farmers out on both quality and price ? It beats me and don’t give me the bollox about animal welfare as the NZ flocks graze organically on mountainsides that don’t get spread with Fert ! Just asking !

Aha Dennis they do spread fert in NZ but with a crop duster aeroplane, I recall seeing a video of it going on and they do not hang about and is a very slick operation, Oily will probably be able to find that vid and put it on, far beyond my capabilities, Buzzer

NZ farmers are into crop and pasture fertilizing quite extenstively it would appear both aerial and land.

I seem to remember back in the late 50’s or early 60’s light planes being used to spray pesticide or whatever on the fruit trees in Kent. We lived on a farm producing mainly Bramley apples. Don’t think it went on for many years before a stop was put on it.

Jim Kinderman used to drive a Volvo for us tipping and loading in the UK back in the day.

Chantal’s place the Ferry Boat is under new ownership for a few years now. Chantal is sadly passed away now. The Welcome has changed hands I believe. The Leopard: Pierre & Nicolle are retired. The Monaco is still there I think. Jacques’ Piano Bar closed I think. Some other restos still there but most have changed owners and names over the years.
