HI robthedog i cant imagine it was from Dawson rentals as i fell out with them at an early stage as i went to hire a frigo of them when they were in northam,went to pick it up and they would not let me have it cos at that time i was not a limited company so offered to pay up frount and they still would not let me have it so i told them to stick it where the sun dont shine and it stood there for another three months.
Just thought of some more ex drivers Smasher from wales ,Dale martin from Andover,Paul Smith a Brummy, and Dave " Nobby " Merritt from Newbury, he got called this as when he came to work for us UK shunting he did not know any of the other drivers by name and called evrybody Nobby and in the end thats what became his nickname.

Hi Jimmer it was deffo Gary and he came from Pompy way and the reason that he was called quwickfit is that he was on his way home from Spain and had a fit,got took to hospital and was not allowed to drive home and i think we flew Sling out to get the motor home, ■■■■■■ said he is now driving for TJ Transpot on a tipper.When he came home he lost his licence for a year till he was declared fit to drive again.

Hi Nick that pic actually still hangs on Horry’s old bedroom wall at home.If you had the privalage of staying overnight in our yard Horry must have thought you were an ok guy,the trouble is today not everyone can be trusted with the facilities you enjoyed during your visit if you get my drift,they have not all got respect for others property etc any ways you obiously enjoyed your stay and young Horry will pick up your thanks as he is a contributer on this forum,cheers Buzzer.

Hi Buzzer talking of tippers I turned onto the M271 yesterday at the redbridge roundabout end only to meet the Air ambulance in attendance to RTA was a tipper, think someone said it was from Pompey way , went into the back of another truck , looked a mess !!

Ah yes Dave Merritt…did some relief work for Brad Nussey and myself when we were on Kingswood. Park up Newbury, Dave would arrive, take trailer to Pompey, change over and deliver back to Newbury. Very handy for a nice n legal Stalybridge and back. Was on a removals job for a while and then went steam cleaning…houses, carpets etc etc.
Just seen on the EC Transport thread that John Young left ECT and went to work for you. John, typical 01’er was always full of stories and jokes.

My god Gazzer back in them days Dave "The Fireman " Morgan used to do one of them stalybridges or eqivilent every day and a Sandbach on a friday so he could wash the motor down in the afternoon.And we reloaded massy tractors out of Coventry if there were any to go.
And you mentioned John Young a man who made an indecent proposal to my mrs and wanted her to run away with her,but my good looks and wit and charm held her back and he got nil pwoints,another MH moment Gazzer.

Hi Richard we are both well except for winter colds.I can tell you Tapper always made me laugh with his tyre guage which was the ariel of his mobile phone cos in those days mobiles had retractable antenna,the other thing that was funny he had something to do with the church quoir but told me they would not let him be treasurer which did not surprise me.I think he did get married in the end and had a child and i think he’s still around Winchester area.When i first met him he worked for Allied Irish and got dissatisfied with that and went freelance but he nearly always got finance on trucks even if they were not that credit worthy,of course as you said he went into trailer rental what a nightmare he could not lie straight in bed that one and thats when we gave him the name Ilied trailer rental, but he did have something im’e still trying to work out what it was.He bought a load of Renault Magnums running to GIB but got caught at Poole docks one shipping out the other in with the same number plate but he talked his way out of that one as well infact he totally confused them in the end,definately a MH moment he was,cheers Buzzer.

He came to me when he was was at Allied Irish a company called Homes Assured plc. had gone bust,and he was given the task of selling off their assets to cover the debts,I ended up with a Porsche 911 Supersport,a BMW M3 Evolution,all the Italian office furniture of which I still have several items,I’m typing this from one of the desks !!, I sold the boardroom table and chairs to Solent Bodybuilders ! a gold IVECO 190.42 which had been impounded by customs for drug smuggling,how he obtained it I do not know ! and a photo copier with a free IVECO 6x2 !! amazing character, but hopeless timekeeper,I once sat with Chris Pitter waiting for him to turn up,Chris phoned him he said he would be 10 minutes,turns out he was 50 miles away !!

Good evening Maggie D. Somewhere in the domesday book Buzzer has a pic of one of the F12’s at night parked in front of a Brittany ship in Portsmouth with an ‘I-lied’ Trailer Rental behind it. When he got into it (the rentals), he had a lot of Gray & Adams trailers which we had three of for a short while as G&A could not make them quick enough. They were easily recognisable as these were the ones with Sydney Hart plastered down the side of them. Can remember as a Nipper going with Buzzer, Gooj, Wichard and Steve Rose from Gray and Adams to the Prince of Wales at Shirrel Heath for a meet. The bill came out at the end and without even knowing, Richard knew the bill was out by £25! He was right and the waitress duly added it all up again. Sharp as a packet of pins with figures!!
Pretty sure he was using Alan Watkins old yard in Hunts Pond Road for a while.
Gazzer, the merc goes back tomorrow. Mappo (keith) was the test pilot for the week. As buzzer said, don’t think one will be seen in blue and white but everything should be tried these days I suppose.
Robthedog, yes correct - it was not a demo to us. It was put into the fleet along with two other trucks same spec as we were waiting for 3 x brand new ‘K’ plate globetrotters to come. The deal was done to sell the old trucks and surprise surprise the new ones from Volvo were delayed, hence why we ended up with them until the new ones did eventually turn up. Ged had one, so did Jock and I think Steve wells had the other (whacker).
Buzzer - yes willy did have a black 142 when he started on here - D969 RTM which you bought from the said Mr Tapper. Dave Merrit ended up with it in the uk before you bought G961 BRE which ged had first and Dave merrit (nobby) again ended up with in the UK. It ended up being sold to Brad Nussey in Newbury as mentioned by Gazzer.
Well shiver me timbers when i do write the book of the history of Davies International and other soton hauliers im’e gonna have to pay Horry as a fact finder cos he remembers every thing about every body.

As Horry said Richard i have trawled the Doomsday book of pics and here you go a promotion pic for Ilied Trailer Rentals,by the way we had not just shipped in with this trailer Wichard (he could not pronounce his r’s) Tapper got me to take this when freshly sign written down to Pompy docks just for advertisement purposes when i went to get payment he said he would do it against rental but i think he wriggled out of that as well,cheeky little monkey,cheers Buzzer.
