Hi John (Axle), you’ve finally made it on here then. I did wonder when I saw the name Ocean Clipper on the Jaques thread.
I hope things are good for you. Next time I’m in AM Pompey for a day I will give you a call.

Hi shady aint it funny how these old nicknames stick even when they left the company,i remember Axle started of as twin split cos of his name Heaton but the H was always dropped hence eaton twin split but that was soon changed to Axle and stuck and if i remember you were BV cos ur name was Holland,over the years we have given loads of drivers aka’s which still live on till this day.

Hi Les i will try and explain some on here you have on your list as Horry has gone to watch saints at QPR.
Some of the early drivers names were just variations of there real surnames such as Longo, Reader, Cluey ( who if you remember had very smelly feet ) and Beggsy.Gooj got that name which was good old odd job.Shirley came with that name cos it is thought he looked like Shirly Temple,dont know how Jed got his,bristol bullit cos he got every where very quickly prob as he liked running on his own,Dave morgan got his name cos he always drove like he was in a fire engine and i always said if i ever went into truck racing he would be the number one driver choice,George RIP and Mildred got changed in the end to Zimmer and Twinpeaks,Mappo was always TIR Tone,cant remember Geordy Colin but do remember Geordy Billy now driving a truck in USA,Tutty another cos of his surname as was Gibbo always dressed like he was out on the town but was actually at work Kwozzy cos he always had the hump but underneath he wernt so bad,Rocky cant remember why so called,Tony 2 called that so as not to confuse with TIR Tone,Shady as on here was always BV as this was because his surname was Holland and Paul who was called that cos when he joined us he was going down the A6 in france and another of our trucks called him up on the CB radio and said who is that and he replied Paul and the the return came Paul who and it stuck from that day forward.Ime sure ther will be many more come to light,just thought of one ,Sling and thats cos he had long hair and was constantly slinging it back over his shoulder,anyways ime sure there are loads more to come cheers Buzzer

By the way i was invited to be knighted by the Queen so i took Horry for moral support and when she had touched me on both shoulders with the old sword she said arise Sir John and Horry had to lean over and said to her Majesty,just tell him to get up cos he doesent know what a rise is.Seeyou.

Firstly not to confuse him with his elder brother but more relevant called moppo as he hurt his ankle badly on a trip and the only thing he could find to use as a crutch was a mop handle he ‘borrowed’ from a service area - do not think he returned it!!
geordie colin - cannot remember a geordie colin, only geordie billy - the only colin back then was colin counsel, who did a bit for denny in his 2800 and used to work for paul selway from somerset previously
