cheers for info horry, its nice to know these little things, id never had worked out what that said and it would’ve pi$$ed me off everytime i looked at the pic.

Hi Kindle530, we had the schmitz frigos because they were much lighter than the gray and adams but the G@A’s were far stronger as the sides were made out of kevlar which is virtually indistructable we went back to them when the schmitz were replaced but now we run chereau’s.I knew Horry would know the detail as he has an amazing memory for not only trucks but also past drivers some of which have returned to us many times, this is only the case if they leave correctly by giving notice and serving it,cheers Buzzer.PS how did you get ur aka?

Thanks for that Gazzer will have a look, cheers Buzzer.

I had good a good few 24s at roquetas del mar while working for you John. If loading in the el ejido area it was a good place to head for, usually one of McCanns about, and much nicer than some of the truckstops and service areas around there. It was also in my opinion much safer.

Having spent plenty of time in that area while working for both Continental Express and then yourself I always knew that it was a huge area for growing veg but take a look on google and you’ll see just how vast an area the glass houses cover. It’s amazing just how many pack houses I remembered once I’d got my bearings.

Cheers
Neilf

All those plastic green houses that you would see at the side of the hills, the production area for the pack houses, the plastic roof is carciogenic, will give you cancer, no Spanish work in them, only immigrant workers, mainly Morocons.

Hi neil i do remember lookin down on what looked like a giant lake with the sun on it as you approached from GIB but as you got closer it became evident it was just huge plastic home made greenhouses growing millions of peppers cues and toms.

I remember this place well it was Roquetas del mar, a little fishing harbour in southern Spain and i was stitched up by Billy Liar from Solstor telling me i would load on thursday but of course friday came and still no load. I was double up with Paul Nichols to Gibralter, any ways TIR Tone turned up and he got the half load to complete his trailer and i got week ended and Paul then doubled with Tony on the homeward leg.Saturday i woke to find silly Keith parked next to me ,the first time we met and we did get jollied on the sunday as it was a holiday got the tractor stuck on this sandy shore and had to get a tow.Of corse later Keith came to work for the blue and whites,by the way he was driving for Richie Ellerca who was on the south coast somewhere, but we did have a laugh that weekend and got loaded eventually but i think Keith loaded elsewhere.

I remember that trip Buzzer, I was looking forward to getting week ended ( for a rest )
But you being the guv,nor insisted on me and Paul ’ geling on ’ while you took it easy. :unamused:
I think the guy that Keith was working for driving that MAN came from Littlehampton way…or was it Brighton.

Mappo you were not to keen to have a rest as i remember about 10 mins after you had departed i found Pauls passport so a chased you tractor only but you were long gone, anyways i took the opertunity to fuel up ready for when i did get loaded and returned for a sleep. PS do you remember the showers in that packhouse brand new never used and an inch of dust and grime from about ten years of non use, i got one cleaned out and used it but no hot water of course but then it was bloody hot down there, another MH moment.

I found that typical of Spanish pack house showers Buzzer, well those that had them anyway.
I used one once, forgot where it was.Same as you, hadn,t been used for ages, well I tested
the water, stepped in and before I knew it I was sharing the shower with a load of cockroaches
that came from underground. I didn’t,t half jump.
Always wary after that episode. :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Hi Tone in that same packhouse i had to use the toilets, for a start there were no doors for privacy same as with the shower i mentioned but i was bustin and it was not till i needed to wipe i realized there was no paper and the sewer system was that bad the used paper was deposited in a bucket by the side of the loo and not flushed in the normal manor needles to say i had to select the cleanest used bit i could find in the bucket to finish the job of,not pleasant but necessary at the time and made sure i was better prepared after that little incident.

The aforementioned 450 Scania owned by Raymondo.

First met Ray when he had a 113m pulling for Sayers of Newbury, he then went onto to subbie with it for Bulldog International. (sleep was for wimps)!!

Good old Ray Samson the professional OD just wanted to work used to come off the ferry and go to his yard in Newbury and service the truck then on to tip in the morning. He used to have the deepest fridge sat in between the seats and " mother " as he used to call his wife must have spent a goodley time prepareing enough grub to keep Ray goin for best part of the week. His son Dennis later came and drove for us as well.

This pic was of the only 113 scania that we ran retreaved from an earlier post,it was sold on to PJK from the IOW.

Wouldnt it be nlce to have a reiunion for past as well as presant Davies drivers don’t you you I… :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Good idea Shady just wonder where you were thinking of holding this party cos there has been an awful lot of drivers over the years, sadly some are no longer with us and are having the big break upstairs, but i suspect it could be a night out to remember although there have been a few of those recorded on this thread already.

Heres a pic of two 240 F88’s on the road to Italy as posted on the Soton site," The Incredible Hulk " driven by me and "Yanky Doodle Dandy " driven by Stan Mathews my first driver.

Kindle is my nickname, and half of my surname (Kindleysides: Kind (as in polite)-lee-sides) when i started secondary school people thought my name was pronounced kindle-sides so called me kindle(as in the digital book, wish i’d copyrighted my nickname!).
530, i was driving a left ■■■■■■ 144 530 when i started coming onto Trucknet.
Just out of interest, how many motors are you running now? I tend to see on reasonably often on the A11/14 heading towards Norwich.

Hi Kindle530, my AKA is Buzzer or Buzby which comes from the old BT ad,this is because i was always on the phone chasing loads and organizing the running of the buisness which started in the 70’s me as an owner driver and then building up till today. To answer your question we ran 33 artics at our peak early 90’s but today it is 15 all frigo’s all LHD FH volvos, this is run by my two sons James AKA Horry and Steven as i am retired, but there mum is still involved on a daily basis and she is referred to as the Boss on this thread.I spend my time driving horses now which is a little more relaxed than the truck game, regards John Davies, aka Buzzer.

Buzzer, I’ll rescue you from page 2! No I have no idea where my truck ended up. I had heard it was on Greek plates…but no confirmation.
