Well we had a successful day today selling our first spring lambs, £135 tops for a mule wether which weighed 56 kilo. Not bad for three months old and topped the market for mules so that’ll do, need to get more sold before all this NZ lamb hits our shores.
Putting a full shift in driving this week to cover holidays, tipped Brentwood reloaded near Brentwood tipped Glasgow now loaded for Barnsley then a load of tractors out of Hull back over near home…
Hey up Wrighty good to see you did well with your lambs makes all the hard work worthwhile when you come home from the Mart with a smile on your face, Sold my little MAN cattle truck to a fella up your end North of Preston a place called Wigglesworth is that any where near you.
Got a fox problem at the moment and despite the efforts of a retired mate who has been on guard for hours on end we have not got him yet so the chooks are going to a new home tomorrow had enough, he sat for 7 hours yesterday and no show the same the day before, came last evening about 7 but think he only had one, its the time of year when they have cubs. Think its better to have a couple steers in my home paddocks rather than the chicken, still got 14 steers in shed but they go out in a couple weeks, let the ones on the marsh have it all yesterday and they went right out on the marsh to have a look but its very wet as we have had lots of rain, think we have had Aprils weather in May this year but thats climate change for you. The boys are having there warehouse reclad at the moment which is a major operation and the inside is also getting a makeover with new racking to up the capacity, this is a more stable earner than the trucks to be fair so onwards and upwards I just watch from a distance, cheers Buzzer
Wrighty my little truck used to sit most of the time and to be honest its not really cost effective so no plans for a replacement yet but never say never, used me IWT to deliver 140 chicken to Godalming today as they are gone to a new post code so Foxy will have to get his take away else where. Buzzer
Chicken gone to there new postcode so no eggs to pick, was & pack just a few disappointed customers that they can no longer get real free range eggs, took them loose in me Ifor cattle trailer which was a good Idea, last night the fox showed again and I had two barrels at it but only winged it so hope it goes away and dies. All go up at Tracy Island as the warehouse is having a major makeover starting with a new roof and sides, then the internals with new racking etc job starts on Tuesday in earnest.
Trouble with me disco on the way home yesterday so had her looked at today to find a split turbo hose which they replaced plus a new fuel filter and she flies now.
The picture below explains a service area named in our honour Aire du Val Gelon (GEL ON), just who nominated us we dont know but good on them picture credit to Andrew I believe, Buzzer.
Been busy last couple of days strimming and mowing the grass, set up the water supply pipe for the runner beans, also cleaned out the water tank in the paddock which had an inch of sludge in the bottom so thats all good now and got the chicken house ready for departure to a new home tomorrow. Got a few nettles to spray tomorrow and get some bean plants in the ground out of the greenhouse.
Nice to see a bit of sun and things have warmed up alot which will bring the grass on and soon we will be mowing and baling once more, onwards & upwards Buzzer
Bit of clearing up today put the las 20 bales of last years haylage in the barn to make way for the new crop, filled up the tractor and fitted on the mower. Took the water bowser down the marsh for the first time this year and filled up the troughs, they drinking a fair bit as its warm now. Chicken house went yesterday so getting ready for the first cut of haylage.
At Tracy Island some of the new cladding arrived today and they have made a start on the building which is getting a total revamp with new racking and polyester floor, will be like brand new when done just a bit tight for room in the yard at the moment, Buzzer.
