eh boss, you could always get us to do what you wanted,
are you serious, you cant train the horses to crap on demand.
what is the world coming to. mind you, we never had time to do
that when we were working thats why you had comodes fitted instead of
drivers seats.
Nice photos Andrew, keep ,em coming mate so us old uns can reminisce ( thank gawd for spell check )
about our time over the water.
Kwozzy…shut up you tart.
I,ve been busy Buzzer…gotta earn the pennies while i still can mate.
Talking about the old dockers, do ya remember when we used to load fruit outa 104/106 berths.
in them gullies ■■?
If i recall they were in gangs of 6 and you were lucky to get two of them.
When i was working for dear old Fred Croucher, i was there one particular day from 0700
and didn,t finish loading til 1100 at night, ( waiting for those crated peaches to come off ship )
I rang Fred and he said it,s still gotta be in Glasgow market in the morning…I tipped in the morning
found my own return load as we did in those days and made it back to the Hollies before having a kip.
These days i struggle to do a legal shift without stopping for 40 winks.
Only 40 Tony ■■? where did you back load from Glasgow I used Popeyes did you ever use em Tone ? I got tucked up many a time with them, oranges up from Flathouse Quay with boat masts on top. ( if I’m right I think them loads used to come from Albert Stratton at Beales Transport Lower Town )

As Tony has a new truck and he is inconspicuous in it…I suggested to him he has a TIR plate in the dash. Anyone got a spare one floating about for him?
Good evening. I will let you all fight it out for the £50. This one is just for fun! Was given this pic today amongst others to follow. Truck was WHO 498V (sister to Mr Lawson’s) Does anyone remember the driver? He was holiday relief then and back 24 years later for a bit more…

Its not the TIR plate you need Gazzer its the old illuminated Spannish sqare lights, one to tell you its an artic the other to tell you its over 7 tonne now some ones got to correct me on those two points.

Great pictures yet again from Andrew.Superb seeing his truck in various locations and working hard covering the miles at home and overseas.
Quick question … When was the old livery dropped for the polished white and blue and was there a reason for the change or was it that it sat better with the white fridges ?

Ringrose if you look at page 202 on long departed southampton hauliers it is explained on that page but it was on the scannys we ran in the late 80’s i bought some 142’s from Peter Gilders just as the 143’s came out they were only 3 months old and had really nice white cabs and as the frigos were always white we just striped them and addopted that scheme but as i said before i still like the old 2 tone blue and red chassis and white trimmings. PS originally we were 2 tone green and red chassis.
hi jonny, the place is saint rambert en bugey on the d 1504, take the old road from bourg en bresse, heading towards chambery via tunnel du chat , if you remember as you came out of the town their was a tight right hand turn to rejoin the main road , with a house on the corner, then a driver took the side of the building out, so they demolished it, thats £100 pounds now ,thanks jonny.
