Anyone know when roll bars on tractors become legal ?

Hi DEANB
Tractors with safety frames or ROPS as called in the Industry, Wiki says law passed 1975 and all tractors manufactured after Oct 1976 to be fitted with a ROPS, hope this helps, Bobs

A customer of ours based in Kendal, IBIS Structural Engineers, built many of the new Roll over bars in 75/76 which we delivered mainly to MF Dealers in the South. The first shot would be circa '75/76 and perched in top of this southbound load standing at Milnthorpe is the first sample ROP destined for an MF Dealer. The second shot is the first full load of the finished product and a good “flying” cap load they were !! Cheers Bewick

Regarding ROPS bars I came up with elf and safety it was brought in in 1974 with the exception of tractors working in low buildings or on orchard work but I know some were made to fold down out of the way when this work was being done, Buzzer.

I thought you only needed the bars if you employed a driver, otherwise you were ok without them?

Pete.

Actually think you are right there Pete but it does make a bit of a mockery of the rules, you can kill yourself but not an employee, Buzzer

Sad day today as we pay our last respects too " TIR Tone " aka Tony Mapson in his Globetrotter going up the final hill RIP mate.

Placuta_tir.jpg

Funerals are not a nice thing to attend but having just returned from TIR Tone’s today I saw so many faces from years gone by, it was almost like shipping out on a Sunday night as most of us doing International work back in the day knew each other well. Tony would have liked it and the shere number of old drivers there to send him on his final trip was a sign of how well liked he was. RIP my friend. JD.

Yes indeed… as you say John a very good send off for Tony on a fierce wet and windy day.

Nice to see so many of the old boys there , didn’t get time to circulate and speak to some I recognised from 30 or sometimes 40 years ago…
Maybe another time…

All the best, Balders.

Hi all, i must agree with buzzer and baldrick it was a very wet and windy send off for TIR tone but there was a very good turn out for a great guy.

Farming report, went to Frome market today as just a few there that caught my eye but the big Angus buyer was there too so not much chance of outbidding him but on the last 3 steers in the ring which were very nice I bid him up and in the end he paid at least £80 a beast more had I not competed so although I did not get any I came away feeling chuffed about making him pay extra for the goods, and we got our rat crap flatties from the bakers, Buzzer.

Hi John,

Don’t get too chuffed as you were caught on the congestion charge camera in Wellow at 1.40 pm on the A36,so a fixed penalty is in the post !

Richard

As John,Stu,and Kevin say our dear friend Tony had a great send off despite the weather a large collection from the Who’s Who of the International drivers scene from the last 40 years were there to say goodbye to this lovely chap.

He was an amazing man who was an out and out professional driver, nothing was too much trouble for him, he would always help you out on the road, unloading and loading, and on the ferries (if you could get him away from the fruit machines)

This is a classic picture of him trying to keep a fellow driver awake on a one hit run to Naples. R.I.P. T.I.R.Tone.

Richard

Evening Buzzer

Well Thursday was a good end to the week, lets hope Boris can get on and finish the job of Brexit now. Busy three days at work was down in Blandford Forum on Weds morn tipping panels, then ran up to Evesham for two collections and home. The weather has turned a bit wintry with a covering of snow when we got up this morning, the sheep were glad to get their grub and are certainly eating plenty of silage so it should keep em going through till lambing which will be the middle of Feb…

Cheers Wrighty.

Wrighty for a minute we thought you had won the lottery and gone to Barbados we have not heard from you for so long, looks like winter up your end that’s for sure but down here all we get is rain and more rain. Good to here from you anyway but down here the trucks are already planning the wind down for Christmas but its been busy for sure, time for you no doubt for a bit more farming and relaxation as well and also I am looking forward to Brexit in real terms that’s for sure, cheers Buzzer.

No were still lurking Buzzer but I haven’t been taking many pics recently as it’s usually chucking it down, it’s a race to get the wet weather gear off and into the dry cab, it’s my least favourite time of the year roll on the 21st and then the days will start to lengthen again…
Not sure when we finish for Christmas but like your lads our work will be drying up towards the 25th, roll on January and we can get back to normal…

Cheers Wrighty.
