Evening Buzzer

We feed them a rolled barley/ sugar beet mix as we find it cheaper than nuts and does them just as well, we feed them as soon as possible after calving as this helps the cows keep condition better especially when the cow is in calf again.
It’s not cheap feeding calves but it pays in the long run and certainly helps us get them away sooner and hopefully at a better price…

Cheers Wrighty.

Is that a Belgian Blue cross snuck in there in that creep ? , that seems to be a popular cross nowadays, Buzzer.

Yes Buzzer we have a couple of Belgian blue cows, they produce good shapely calves that grow quickly. At a farm sale a few years ago we bought an AI flask complete with ■■■■■ straws, upon further investigation it turned out that some of the straws were b/b. Every now and then we will AI one or two of the crossed cows and if they have heifers we will keep them in the herd.

Cheers Wrighty.

Nice pan of veg Buzzer,i like the Charlotte spuds but i buy mine however i can comment on them , i find them longer to boil and slightly waxie, will make good chips,

sometimes i boil mine up with a pan of cabbage ,shredded cabbage ,i cut the white heart out…,then add a full pack plain bacon, no fat cut in strips … then boil it all in the same pan 20 mins, drain it off in a cu-lander, get a large knob of butter about the size of a thumb, heat it up in a non stick pan, then put the wifes share in first, get it all nice and brown ,fick it about in the pan then serve, just salt and pepper, then do your own larger potion…more butter.and if you feel adventurousy stir some cream -fresh in at a fast pace a good table spoon.then the magic happens…

i used to do the same when on my trips,if not bacon, a bit of stewing beef ,or any meat i could get ,and do it in my pressure cooker,on a little gas ring on a table clipped on the dash and i would be sat right by it in the passenger seat in control -ish i never ever had any mishaps, i used to feed many a- nother driver mostly the ones who would never cook in the cab…but i did all the time…
DO you remember the super market in Aosta there was a butchers right at the back inside, he had some very good cuts especial fillet steak and pork.

Hope you enjoy your holiday WRIGHTY you certainty earn it .i had enough with one truck to drive ,let alone a farm, having a good partner must be the key.
allthough i do not feel guilty going on holiday now, most of us have earned over the years…

Wrighty a couple of the cows I bought which are pedigree Lims are supposed to be in calf to a Belgian Blue, they were pd’d in calf when they were TB tested prior to delivery to me so may get a surprise come spring.
Been putting beef nuts in that creep but they don’t pig them selves out like I thought they would they just go and have a session then leave but they also graze eat haylage and get a bit of milk as well.

PDB I have heard about that cabbage and bacon recipe before but never got round to trying it meself. The only green stuff I got in the patch is purple sprouting broccoli which has taken off, got net over it to stop the crafty pidgeon’s snicking in there for a quiet feast, Buzzer.

Morning all managed to find a bit of time today so drip feed you some more pics of my last trip for Davies.

Nice photos Andrew, can you still get a free vending machine coffee on the French side of the Frejus tunnel ?
I got tokens from the office building .
I used to grab a break at the Mount Blanc tunnel on the Italian side and eat in the restaurant up the stairs, there was a snack bar that did pasta and pizza or the main restaurant for a proper meal .

There was photos on the wall of when they were building the tunnel, it was planned to be a four lane , as in two lanes in each direction but locals objected due to pollution.
Saw many drivers ignore pulling in to get a bit of paper prior to going in from Italy to France, they will send you back to do it .

I think most of you know where I’ve gone but just in case here’s my new steed if any of you see me on the road anytime just pop n say hello be good to put faces to names!!

Just got back in from Dorset County show and it absolutely peed down and we got soaked to the skin as you can tell from the picture.

Andrew yes thanks so very much ,i knew every inch of where you where and went so many times however i never did ships stores ,ps did you load back.or do the trucks get back to reload for Another cruiser …i used to like to go over the bendie bit over GENOA DOCKS .

Once customs had finished and we would just glide past the old compound in MONDA well over the 10 pm cut off if you got past chambray the bp,buy 10pm big licks to the top of FRAZERS. park in the layby as close to the front as possible then hike it down into BARDONACHIA FOR PIZZA and go on the ■■■■ after a weeks hard work…most times i would be the only English driver there, as a lot went on to SUZA or further non stop Cariso exspress you knew you would not get a PULL IN Italy sat night …TO BE CONTINUED

That’s a memory jogger those Frejus pics Andrew. Many happy trips up and down through there.
I recall a time in M33 , ’ 'twas but a few weeks old and kept going into " safe " mode with restricted revs. Had a long journey up that bank and London Mark ( aka the vovo kid ) stayed astern of me all the way.

Always preferred that route to the Blanc.

There was a very interesting article about your new boss and the Dixon fleet in the Irish Times. A farmers lad as so many hauliers big and small are in these parts…

Balders you are right it was IMHO a much more scenic route via the Frejus especially before all the motorway came about following the river up the valley and passing through St Jean Du Maurienne, stopped there a few times over the years only place could not eat the dinner as I have mentioned in the past as it were tripe and that I cannot stomach, they feed that to greyhounds don’t they cheers Buzzer.

PS. if there are any dirt to dish on Dixons get it on here mate, just interested.

Yep… Great run following the river…

Re Dixons , not sure if there’s any dirt to dish mate… The article was in the Independent not the Oirish Toimes.

If you google " Michael Dixon independent.ie " you should get it up.
And the article , ooer matron
