wrighty:
Got to agree Buzzer the best pork sausages are home grown and butched by someone local, were now eating the proceeds of this years crop and the pork chops are superb.
Busy lambing now just been out around a fifty acre field looking for a yow, found her lambing up against the fell both feet back so she was to lamb and then bring down into the field next to the house, here’s a picture of last summers piggies…

Cheers Wrighty.

Some long nights ahead of you lambing then, spose you got to keep your finger on the pulse else you lose too many. Nice brace of pigs there mate, I tend to get them up to 220lb live weight’ish be probably cutters not quite bacon size so you get girt chops of them, love the liver and kidneys but give the hearts to some one else. Me Mother always had chidlings but I hated the smell and the taste, can still see her now turning them guts inside out with a holly stick to clean them but they never wasted nothing of a pig only the squeal, Buzzer.

Got a load into Settle int morning then up to Bellshill to load, in till Wednesday then off for ten days holiday. Well I say holiday it will be ten hectic days of lambing as well as the usual stuff cows etc roll on May, here is a picture of one of our crossed cows with a month old heifer…

Cheers Wrighty.

gazzer:
Just so I’m not out done on the Semi Buzzers Agricultural Thread…my new addition into livestock minding:
Arrived last sunday, stuck behind a retaining wall on my farm. My next door neighbour said it wasn’t his so suggested I keep it. Being a male it ain’t worth a carrot, also, I already have one in the freezer courtesy of my neighbour. He was good enough to give me 1/4 of a sack of dried milk to get him on his way. The vet said he was good and if we didn’t want him, his brother, a goat man, would. We opted to look after him (Freddy) for the foreseeable. He’s now 2 weeks old by estimation. Going to bring him up with the dogs, so that’s what he thinks he is! Another bit of security!

Evening all,

Now Im an Arable man, pure and simple, no heartache with acres of spuds, Caulis, Wheat, Barley, and the delectable Salad crops. But I grew up with the heartache and work of livestock I have spent many lonely very cold freezing nights up on the Shropshire Hills, (and Wrighty they can be as bleak as anything you have up there), with the four legged woollen jumpers…and have a “funny” nose courtesy of a nice little Gurnsey who did not like the way I was stroking her Teats!..

But Gazzer, my passion was always Horses, and Goats…

Anglo Nubians, Sarnens, Alpines, by gum Ive had them all…(.and never sold one to our Asian Friends, for their barbaric “Religious” slaughter, I hate that so much). A much mis-understood creature, full of fun, naughty, characterful, great personalities, and totally individual. But if you wish to keep that little chap…get his “equipment” removed…otherwise he will become a little demon!

Wrighty, good luck…very few who have never experienced lambing can begin to understand just what exhausting work it is…let alone the tension, nay, hope and despair that can accompany it.

Buzzer, I went over to Duck Eggs, very little opposition in the market place, quite a lot doing free range up here…but very few do Duck and Geese…mind you, sticking your hand under a Canada cross Emden whose getting a bit broody does liven up a spring morning!!!

Removed the first lots of Frog Spawn from the fish pond this morning…and dumpted it in the lake,…cheeky b`s!

Cheerio for now.

Buzzer:
Wrighty would’nt mind a break away from base, but not sure about a working holiday. Can I bring me hosses and do a bit of driving while im’e there, change as good as rest they say. Baldrick’s certainly sorted you our some fair weather but think it may change as I just sent him a couple of wooly DIT issue safety hats so it will go cold or pee down again. See that we cottage he is refurbing now I want to see him out in the peat bog cutting his winter fuel supply, that would be something to behold.
Went out today with the team of horses nice and sunny but if you caught the breeze you certainly knew about it. Busy tomorrow as BT to sort me not so fast super fast broadband in’t morning then new hen house after dinner so bizzy, cheers Buzzer.

Evening gents… No sign of hats yet JD … Hoping for a surprise this week… :open_mouth:
Luvverly day here today…bright sunshine but only 10 degrees as a chilly Easterly blowing.
Like your hen house ! That’s next on the list here so might pm you for advice.
We moved into the house this morning although still lots to do… Had a brekkie whilst watching a programme called " this farming life " or something like that. Very interesting…
It’s great being an armchair farmer… None of the reality like freezing cold, ■■■■■■■ wet , lots of ■■■■ etc
Hello Wrighty… Weather set to change here on Wednesday so you’ll be getting the rain after us.
Keep the pics coming and truck on steady…

Balders I think your postman might have sussed that package the Boss sent last week, I know every thing in Ireland is reputed to be at a retarded rate but I think your posty must have gone on a bender and hasn’t come round yet, You should get them before the rain hits although they arnt water proof but ok for a bit of wind.
When you get your hen hose make sure its easy to work with as this makes it more enjoyable, you don’t need to ne kneeling down on wet ground to clean out, I don’t use straw but wood chip or sawdust will do it, very absorbant stuff, bibi for now Buzzer.

Buzzer pigs are alright until they escape from the shed, worse than moles when they Start digging.

Cheers Wrighty.

Stop Press Stop Press !!!

Ger turned up this morning with the titfers.

Great packaging by the Boss and very clear writing. Ten out of ten Gill.

Am up to me neck in Brilliant White emulsion at the mo but will post the modelling pics later in week…

Thanks for that mate!
Toodle Pip. Balders.

Just seen that pic of your diggin pigs Wrighty. You wouldn’t want that on your football pitch eh…

Baldrick it’s a good job they taste nice they dug the field up in a morning, they are very nosey.

Cheers Wrighty.

Wrighty you should have put rings in there snouts, down here in the New Forest National Park they have to be done before they are turned out for the panage season in the autumb. This is done if there is a huge crop of acorns, pigs love them but they aint good for horses and not to good for cattle either that’s why they do it, damage limitation.
Balders old Ger must have come round from his session look forward to the modelling, just hats mind nought else, Buzzer.

Every time i click on this site buzzer i learn something interesting and new PANNAGE .
Wikipedi tells all ,10/10.

Also the removal of frog spawn in to the lake, another snippet, however i have no pond,I bet the dear old French men move it into the larder.

BUZZER by any chance of the imagination are “truffles” ever found in the new forest, by the pigs, no! [not the SOUTHERN BELGIUM’S GERMANS]The four legged ,apple sauce ,wrightys ones. or is that another new forest best kept secret…i have never ever tried truffle,i like the truffle oil smell .

LOOKING forward to BALDRICKS PHOTOGRAPHS, I loaded peat, from a peat bog/farm,whatever you call it from BONA MONA or something like that, pdb.

PDB never heard of truffels in the New Forest but certainly Fungi in fact the authorities are taking action on illegal collectors doing this on commercial grounds now. as its worth a lot of money to the fancy restaurants in London and the like, but you got to know what you are picking and its not for me. A use full tip is that if its got red on it leave it be cos it will probably be deadly.
Reckon we can all learn sumthin new every day that’s why this old thread is so interesting, cheers Buzzer.

PS. Got my 24 new POL chicken today and before I put em in the house I clip there wing feathers on the right hand side as this prevents em flying, they just go round in circles and cant get off the ground.

Saviem: Yeah I got a tip off about the nutz! As few males get through a full life, the attachment of an elastic band suitably estrangulating the gonads does the job. My mate Adam down the mountain does it all the time with his sheep. Might need to borrow his applicator…soon!
Buzzer: Your advice on a pig or two wouldn’t be far wrong. My neighbours son fattens a few, 5 or 6, up here. My farm has 3 oak wooded areas with copious wasted acorns. Wasted only until the wild boar come rumaging at night.

Gazzer better still get yourself a super strong cage and trap some wild boar, they would make some very tasty sausages. Reminds me of a story about Micky Long on his travels for us, the story goes he went into a restaurant and wild boar was on the me and you and he asked the waiter in broken Italian is it really wild boar and the waiter said it was when it was caught boom boom, how I don’t know if that was a account or not true but you know Longo.
For farming interest here is a shot of my new POL hens just got today, cheers Buzzer.

Down on the farm with the fair weather still with us I took the opportunity to do the rolling and if im’e honest it was a tad too dry but carried on and got it done, just tidys it all up and now waiting for Baldrick to send us over some rain and hope the sun keeps shining then we can watch Doctor Green grow, Buzzer.

That is a tidy machine Buzzer, not the usual rot on the cab

Pete it has only had three owners in its life from 1980 and I am the third, have had it 8 years now but when I bought it of a dealer in Ilminster, Somerset he handed me the tax disc still in its perforated surround so when I got it home thought I will put that in the disc holder and to my amazement there were the previous 19 consecutive discs. Should have kept them but did not. She has got a little rust in the door bottoms but most things on it still in working order and she is not losing any value either, Buzzer.

I got a Fordson Dexta, got to cut grass with it this weekend,as daft as it sounds I find it nice and relaxing, much better than messing with trucks! Cheer’s Pete

Evening Buzzer

Tidy looking outfit definitely an appreciating asset, it’s a surprisingly short window when the land is at it’s optimum for rolling. Just parked up for the night having spent four hours trying to get tipped in Droitwich, back to Lancaster In the morning for a Leeds them home to get stuck into lambing

Cheers Wrighty.

The mention of Droitwich triggered a memory of my first job with a class one straight out if the test centre.
Working for Carryfast doing night trunk with a 2100 Daf and a ZF gearbox , a green as grass 21 year old. Boy did I play some tunes on that. At least it kept me awake.

A Mary Hopkin moment as JD would say
