HI buzzer would you not think that a young lad would want to be a apprentice blacksmith the worlds mad, mind you seeing that new apprentice swinging the old lump hammer about will be riviting…nice beasts wrighty are they a cross,[ not unhapppy] they looked happy, they all got their eyes open, bet they have heard about the new apprentice and want to transfer down south…must say you keep your old truck smart.
Wrighty them hummuck’s look in fine fettle munching away, the harrow I got is only a 3mtr one I don’t need anything bigger than that and when I go to get rid when I finished with it I know it will sell down here as there are loads of smaller places who don’t need big gear, look at the out gate when going through the in gate is my motto and has always worked in the past for me.
PDB I will try to remember to take a picture of that lass weeling the hammer on Monday as it sounds like you are ■■■■■■■ already, Im’e off to me bed now Buzzer.
Evening PDB,
Our cattle are mainly pure Limousin with some Limousin x, I bet they would love a trip down to Buzzers for a bite of doctor green and some warmth on their backs. Unfortunately it will be early June before they get outside, has been mentioned on here before about keeping motors clean when carrying foodstuffs,it’s not always easy with our climate. Are they new harrows Buzzer or s/hand,they always seem to sell well at farm sales, E Bay etc.
Cheers Wrighty.
Hi Wrighty those harrows were on Ebay but no bidding they were just over £1200 plus VAT which is a sod as I cant claim that back but I have bought off the man before and they look good especially the tines but as I said they will have an easier life with me. As for Lims they are a bit mad but I do like the breed and they are like a young woman and usually have lovely back ends to look at, cheerio for now Buzzer.
Thank you wrighty ,nice ladys , do not like the cold, typical…Buzzer my missus would say to me “there you go!, you can not keep filth out of any conversation ,” can you, i would say “what” reply would be ,“lovely back ends”, bloody lorry drive talk… They dont get it do they,[wim-ing] THE SHAPE THE FORM like young ladies, grrrrr

short walk:
Spotted Snapper and the swatter today near Ringsted, direction Copenhagen. Flashed lights but he appeared to be peeling chalots and did’nt see me. Maybe tmrw?
Hi short walk sorry missed you unusual for me lol I blame the new fly swatter lol
Hi ANDREW,
Did you find out what a "springer "was?just a thought you could maybe get a cutlery rack, of kitchen appliances hanging down from the top of the wind screen in side of course , i have a small 0ne egg frying pan i could hire it out for a start.so the mossie swat could be a spatula as well.
At lest you have not got any washing hanging up, i used to dry socks and pants along the screen inside, and at weekends away do a bit of dohbie, and string a line up.many times…smart truck though .
And back to agriculture at Salisbury livestock market today to view the trade. Dispersal of a suckler herd for one farm and followers including incalf heifers and youngstock, the cows and calves varied in price but the ones with really good Lim calves made about £1100 but nice Blue incalf and PD 7 months made the same with Lims slightly less all in to a Ped Lim bull. The younger stuff made good money if it was quality, others not so good Buzzer.
Buzzer
i spent many a-hour sat at the back of BANBURY AND OTHER MARKETS with the yard/driver foreman so he could see who had brought what, and what delivers we would have after .many pints drunk that day ,then go and do delivers . farm, or abitior ,we used to do GREAT YARMOUTH [birds eye] all the old barren cows] ,EXPORT TO SHEERNESS[ barren cows] is there still a market for BULL calves FOR THE VEAL…■■■■ AND BEER were the food for the day, people would never believe it.we would all have a ash plant stick with a sawn off screw in the end, just to give the old girls just that little bit of extra help up the ramp…at the back of their hoof, my god when i think of it ,but it was all normal
.Big old boots covered it ■■■■,cut off legging,s to get in with the sheep, nice grease coat ,rating hat with a grease peak, they were the days, not…
PDB just read your post well I cant believe the price good bull calves make in market up to £400 for a continental bull and they are most at risk of catching something and dying at that young age and a loss is a disaster at those prices…
Can relate to your stick with a screw in the end, been watching a program this week on farming in Scotland (every night 7pm for 1 hour BBC) challenging work for some of them and they are a hardy breed but nice to watch sitting in an armchair in the warm with a cup of tea. Down here a length of plastic water pipe is as good a stick as you can have but that’s if no one is looking on , too many wanna be RSPCA and Vets around and you are in the crap. You have to be careful of getting kicked as well as a clout from a stirk is very painful .
My mate has an Australian healer dog which nips at there ankles and the really good ones of that breed will jump on there backs, well its rained here for most of the day just as it was drying up a tad,
Up early tomorrow to go and pick up my harrows I bought in Chorley, Lancs not looking forward to that trip but has to be done, cheerio for now Buzzer…
Hi Buzzer i could have double manned your trip to Chorley no prob .next time if you venture above the state line give me a mail…
I like the Aussie dog all ready probably got some Dingo in them. HEALER. some of the older drivers had a dog all the time, they new as much as the driver, some farmers would not like it but others did… mostly Scottish boarder collies cross. you can tell a good cattle dog just by its actions,as if hyper active, and some would give you a nip if you got to close or in the way. never get in the cab, when the boss was not there.
Some of the older farmers would be so emotional over there dear old milker, they would say, “now boy you just chain her up real good” in the sale pen. and stick theses stickers on etc, then they Might giver you a bob .some of the older well established drivers would maybe draw, 15/shilling to a pound, by looking after the sheep and cattle penning them, and especially pigs, one or two drivers would have a bucket in there cab, nowt else, but wet weather gear, leggings and dried ■■■■… just to wash the udders down before the sale [another 2/6 half crown ] if we got a tip [drink] put in your hand, you would pretend to spit on it put it in your pocket, and touch the top of your cap … you never got anywhere near the pig collections until you were proper trusted.
I do remember there was a big inquiry as to had welted some young porkers, at a “nameless” abittor was it the driver or the lair-age staff .Because after slaughter ,and dressed, hanging, the welts come out, i have seen it myself, you can tell ever thwack, bruises[.not me]… but i learned to use a wooden flat thin board…PDB
Well I am like a zombie now, up at 3am and off at 3.30 to Chorley, Lancs. took me four hours time I found the place loaded and strapped ready for home and had a quick look round the yard to see if any thing else of interest. He must have a big guard dog judging by the size of the kennel at the entrance to the yard and the turd on the ground (as big as human one it was0
Left for home and did it in 3 and 3/4 hours 80/85 most of the way and now I know why I don’t like distance driving anymore although early morning is best.
Wrighty saw two of yours a little way apart round Banbury going North about 10.45 am was’nt you per chance was it, smart looking outfits cheers Buzzer.
Evening Buzzer,
Tidy looking harrows you got there should make a good job, never used the spring tine type we always use chain harrows. A fair journey you’ve had today, bet you were ready for a brew when you got home!
I am on days off at the moment and have taken sat/sun off holiday, so today was spent farming had a load of straw and chopped a bit of firewood.
Cheers Wrighty.
