Class from the past, Buzzer.Class indeed! Probably an Estepe high-roof; I notice it’s LHD so it’s probably Dutch-spec - and Dutch spec 142s were lovely (I know because I drove one). ! Looks like a classic good lorry to me. Robert
Robert we bought this truck from Peter Gilder second hand it was a pig cart doing two trips a week from Holland to Italy, one load to Rome the second load to Naples every week double manned so had loads of kmtr’s on the clock. When we bought it I said to PG it’s got no night heater in it and his reply was, it never got the chance to get cold. We had a bloke on this truck who tried to kill it but it only picked up rings on one piston, we repaired it and away she went again and boy could it eat hill’s, it was an Estepe and it was on air so slightly more comfortable than springs. Bought a lot of Scania’s of PG all LHD but we only did International, those 142’s were real good trucks and good on fuel driven the right way. We run Scania’s today and average over 10 mpg at 44 tonnes which is amazing as when in the early days if you got 6 mpg you thought you were doing well, Cheers Buzzer.
Hi John,
I remember those Dutch pig lads double manned to Southern Italy, one night came into Pont D’Ain and on the left turn past Serge & Annie’s towards the Cerdon there was one rolled over on it’s side with pigs everywhere some with various injuries, and some just wandering around,it was a couple of days before I could manage a pork chop !
Regards
Richard
John I remember those dutch pig lads in aosta customs clearing their loads with the hose pipes going full blast to cool down the pigs in the summer as pigs can’t sweat and the only way to cool them down was with loads of water good days . cheers dennis.
Excuse me for butting in on this very entertaining forum of yours ,when as a stranger reading all your banter ,what a brilliant company to work for i can assure you not many companies have what you all did maybe because you are from the same area??
Being a ex fridge man ROKOLD 1982 onwards to PULLEYN 1989 -1990S I FOLLOW WITH INTEREST
First the wine collections it looks as nothing has changed ,yes i loved it, picking up that first TELEX at the first collections.the vine -de -route.magic .
The SCANIA and the DUTCH PIG MEN ,as a ex cattell man my self i knew ,i thought how to drive but ,when the first pig man came flying past me down the blanc not long after the tunnel ,cutting me up, wow.that was my first encounter, my hackles were up i thought right AOSTA thats it, by the time i had nursed the motor i had down ,“thinking back like a sissy”, not got my bottle yet…another one came past, wow again. i was fuming. once i got there were 4 off them i backed off and thought better of it i was young-ish they where kids!! just out of school.no fear… however the more trips i did i got it in the end and i used to go past UK men ,full up with beef on the hook from GERMANY.WOULD I DO IT AGAIN ,YES TO TRUE

I wonder if my ‘name board’ is still by the side of the A414…?
Balders have not heard from you in a while, what you been doing ? as for going to Greece you better hang on a moment methinks, unless you still got a wodge of drachma tucked away cos you may well need it if Brussels kicks them out euro’s wont be any good. Why the hell they want to give them another 50 billion euros beats me, all they got is holiday beaches, some grapes and a few old water melons and that aint going to pay the debt, Buzzer.
PS. If you want to go to Greece ring the boys, they could possibly give you a trip and you get paid as well and Qwozzy is doing one next week and Roger has said he will look after him and show him what to do, should be fun.
ha… Yes you may be right JD.
It’s crazy though isn’t it? They don’t pay back 50 billion so the answer is lend them another 100 billion and see how we go■■?
Can you imagine running your business like that?? Mad.
As for me, am happily ensconced ( now there’s a word for ya! ) in County Cork … so many mad people here, I fit in proper.
Re the holiday. Sorry , trip to Greece for the boys. Some questions before I sign up…
How much would I have to pay?
Can I pay in instalments?
Would it be compulsory to run with Wuwa??
Could I have a Mandator?
Can you guarantee a 50 k exclusion zone regarding Kwozzie?
11-07-15…
Buzzer,
You wont have to look for a back load from darkest desperate grecoland - plenty of UK types shipping stuff home QUICKLY.
You couldnt make it up - all these super brains being told to “sod off we aint paying” now think its a sound plan to give the tossers
EVEN more of OUR money , what a way to run a ship… The clue is “OUR MONEY” of course . To quote a comedian , "IS IT MEEEEE " ,lol
