Thankyou Andrew. Good to hear the photos are still in hand and to see the Davies fleet are being kept busy.

The back door shots (so to speak!) look good and they carry through from all era’s be it 80’s or now.

Keep those cruise ships supplied

Went to the yard yesterday in a horse and carriage, Andrew and a few others chilling ready for the off to Greece today. They had bought a pork joint and veg and were going to have a roast dinner in the yard, Gave Andrew a telling off and he has promised to post some more pictures this week, bet they will be glad to get out of this crap weather although I did some chain harrowing Saturday after the cattle had gone so this will wash it in nicely, cheers Buzzer.

Hi Bullitt don’t know the correct spelling but it was Bugujno or something like that, at first we just tipped in Split port and went by ferry from Ancona, crap boat which was low headroom so had to be careful not to damage trailers. Some went overland and as was MOD sealed less hassle on borders, but you had to have papers right. We had half a dozen motors stuck just before Christmas one year, the cabs were nearly buried in five foot of snow. The drivers were not allowed to sleep in there cabs even though night heaters were working as it was deemed to dangerous in the end the MOD flew them home for the festive break and they went back to collect the trucks in the new year. We took all sorts of stuff out there, Mail, tents, petrol in gerry cans oil in barrels spares like tank tracks even two schimitre tanks inside a frigo about an inch each side to play with so had to load straight and of course all food supplies. We some times back loaded smashed up landrovers and other damaged gear, good work for us while it lasted nearly eight years then steady Eddie took it over and we were out, but we had the best of it Buzzer.

One of my loads was tank tracks from Longtown to Split by road. Gotta say I really enjoyed that trip. The place we tipped in Bigonja was a bookers warehouse. A bit of a dive, not recommended to use the toilet. :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

We did countless loads like that and brought back the knackered gear as well. what was odd in the pictures taken by drivers was of a block of houses some riddled with bullets and then one in the middle untouched all according who occupied them, very sectarian, Buzzer.

Parked in the yard today ready for the off on Sunday, with the odd infiltrator in the corner as well Buzzer.

It was all very much that way John, neighbour fighting neighbour.

I can remember 3 of us running overland to Petrinja and the road into town was lined with tape warning of mines and the buildings had plenty of shell damage. Arriving on a Saturday evening we had to wait until Monday morning to tip so having checked it safe to do so we strolled into town on the Sunday. Walking about a mile down residential streets you would suddenly come across a house that had been blown apart and buildings all around hadn’t been touched. In town we had a couple of beers, I know you’ll find this hard to believe, and if you faced into the bar you could have been anywhere in Europe. If you spun round and looked out if the window you saw a 3 story shopping centre that had flattened and was just a pile of concrete. Really weird!.

On our way into town we managed to find ourselves the wrong side of a 12’ bridge and I ventured into a local bar to ask for directions. The people were helpful as ever and having managed to turn 3 trucks around we headed out of town to find our way in from the other side. About a mile out of town a car suddenly shot past us, lights and horn going and a guy waving a rifle of all things out of the window. The car dived in front of me and jumped in the brakes and all I remember saying over the CB was " I think we’re in the ■■■■ here". Turned out it was the guys I’d asked in the bar and they said they would guide us round. It was a good job they did because the roads got rural pretty quickly and 3 gleaming Davies trucks certainly drew attention.

Cheers
Neilf

While browsing through my old photos I noticed for the first time the
reflection in the rear window of the van.
Should be recognisable to many of you.

For all those who believe in second generation drivers we have a new apprentice just started none other than Mark son of kwozzy, we are trying to think of a suitable “nickname” for the door so sensible answers on a post here please and there is a prize if your’s is selected that being a pint at the bash supplied by Horry. Mark was going to do a few weeks here first just like Horry did when he first drove but pressure of work means he is shipping out and is being shown the way by Roger aka “wuwa” so by the time he gets back he will be well briefed and have at least ten years worth of experience and crap rolled into one, glad i’me not in the chair anymore, cheers Buzzer.

Why not just keep it simple and straightforward ie…
'Kwozzy 2 or The son of Kwoz or Kwozzy jnr.

If Mark is half as good as his Dad, then gawd help ya…only kidding.
You,ll have a good,n…the job is already in his blood.

He,s got a good teacher in Roger, as you know, even though you take the Mickey.

Horry or Buzzer…whoever sees Roger first, please send him my regards.
