Usual question lads just want to know what their like to work for? Thanks in advance

I don’t work for them, but went for an interview last year out of their medway depot (hiab). The pay structure is very complicated from what the interviewer told me… and one of the questions on a form I had to fill out asked what I currently earned. Whem the interviewer saw what i earned, his first words where “bloody hell, we dont pay that much”. At that point, i basically lost interest and spent the rest of the interview listening to what he had to say. The hours are long, the start times are all over the place, you get a basic, then a bonus if you are pulling a trailer (if your on rigid drawbar), you then also get a percentage of the load. The higher the load value, the more money you get. The kit they have is very nice, even tho i was gonna be put into a MAN narrow day cab (which was due for replacement), and looks extremely well maintained. Especially the units that run out of their depot near Halstead, Essex . For the type of work they do, specialist lifting etc, I thought the money was crap and if i was to take home what i was earning at the time, I would have to of worked max hours, get all the decent loads… Needless to say, I politely made my excuses and left. I decided to stay at the firm I am still at now, which work out for the best in the end…

As above had an interview there 2 years ago and declined

cheers lads,

Well went interview and the money is better than what im on  You guys must be on a good ticket

Speaking to one of their drivers a few weeks ago, basic wasnt great, but there were lots of extras, similar to Stobarts i guess. Matey seemed to be happy with what he was taking home. Good job, decent people apparently.

Everyone here is on £100,000 a year, 8hrs a day, 8 weeks holiday, all drive top of the range motors etc etc. Wouldnt get out of bed for less blah blah blah :unamused: :unamused:

Good luck with the job if you take it mate.

i don’t like jobs that where the money is reliant on bonus schemes or the like, just pay me a decent hourly rate keep it nice and simple

Same here. You end up having to become reliant on bonuses to ensure your take home is decent. And that’s after you’ve worked ya arse off to get said bonuses. that’s the one of many reasons why i walked away. In my job, i know exactly what im taking home each and every week, and the overtime on Saturdays is a very very nice added bonus.

I’m sorry you guys felt that the pay structure was complicated at DWT. The interviewer at the time obviously wasn’t clear enough but just to clarify for anyone who may see this and is still wondering.
The average yearly salary our drivers earn is between £35-£40k for Rigid and drawbar with medium size crane and upto £50k for the larger cranes. This is made up of a basic hourly rate and bonus on the cost of transport your vehicle covers not the value of the load, plus overtime and out of hours bonus should you be required to start before 6am or work after 8pm. It might seem complicated but I can assure you our drivers earn well and we supply premium vehicles and equipment.
The earnings mentioned above do not include the tax free money for nights out that can add approx. £2.5k at the end of the year. Drivers also get Bupa Private Medical cover. We have our own training department and all new employees irrespective of their experience will spend a minimum of a week training at our Essex depot, we also put all our drivers through CPC training to get their hours at no cost to them.
I hope that clarifies a few things.

Break it down a bit more…

So what is the actual hourly rate, and then the bonus ‘rate’■■

Crap hourly but fantastic bonus then equals the £35K■■?

Is this another ‘unclear’ pay scheme / job advert etc, where to earn a decent £££, you need to rely on the bonus system…■■? :unamused:

What is wrong with you the man has just told you what you could expect to earn, sounds good to me,just take it as read,if I wanted a job I would certainly give it a go.

I see the been advertising for loader drivers out earls clone past few months.

Would be interested to know what the actual hourly rates are to compare with what I am on now.

I’m not sure what Bupa is like or how decent the scheme is that they offer, but I used to receive private medical insurance from a previous employer and it was fantastic. They did provide a good level of cover though. Used it twice. After I left I tried to keep it up privately but too expensive.

I went for an interview there last year and it aint that a complicated pay scheme it was an average hourly rate which was enhanced either end of the day a bonus scheme which seemed quite good and a good night out allowance which was double what most of us get .some people just cant see the wood thru the trees

Someone been google-ing their own company

I know three drivers who work out of brandon all three are what I would class as old school take a pride in there job and there motors all have been there a few years and round our way there is plenty of jobs yet they still keep there so that to me says something to me the work is interesting and varied, I do not know what there rate of pay is as said before it is made up in different ways but I never hear any of them moaning about the pay I run my own lorry but if ever I packed up I would try there as I recone it would suit me

Goldfinger, I don’t know how I can break it down any further for you. Hourly rate depends on the type of vehicle driven. If you drive a small 18t 4 wheeler with small lorry loader you go on one pay group and the guys on 44-60t vehicles with larger lorry loaders on another. I have given you the annual salary our drivers are actually getting, the £35-£40k and £50k figures are not made up and drivers are getting this with average weekly hours of 55 and night out money is on top of this! We have a very low turnover of drivers and many have been with us for years. We are always on the lookout for drivers as we are continuing to grow. I’ve had 3 more start this week and are currently at our Essex depot training.

F-reds, No not google-ing. Some of our drivers are on here and mentioned the post so I thought I would shed some light on the subject for everyone. If anyone has any more questions just ask.

50k for 55 hours plus nights out, might come back to driving  :open_mouth:
