David Croome

actually thats prob right, he has an offfice in clare in ireland.

I worked for Bill Puxley…the young one…his dad old bill just plodded along with his own truck…i worked in West Ferry Road…we used to do a lot of Austrian Work then…and a lot of steel to scotland out of rainham…
I left them to work for Asian Transport…and i believe that D.Croome bought them out…which is why they kept the colours …Had some nice tackle…even the old AEC mandators had drop down beds in them…but all the trucks had to be washed sat morning, and cabs tilted to steam the engines/chasis…and bill bought us a breakfast in the cafe over the road…

Hi all,
I was told his eastern regisrations were run under his name but operated by gold star logistics part of his company ? am i right ? Paul

routier:
It was one of Croomes drivers on the BBC TV , Traffic Cops I think, last week causing a crash, he was literally Pole Axed. Couldnt speak English, no surprise there then

So is Croome UK or Latvian based now ?

UK head office is at queenborough isle of sheppey. His brother micheal runs out of lenham storage. Both run in exactly the same livery. Trucks registered all over the place . Most uk reg are micheals. David has biggest fleet, truck in accident belonged to david i believe.

KW:
Are Eagle Freight still going?

Don’t think so. I had New Year’s Eve 1994 at the Tankbar with Sean from Eaglefreight, who had just managed to blow himself up with a dodgy Russian stove. His face looked a bit sore, the old boy. Later I heard he gave said stove to Stas, their Belarussian driver, who then blew his face up with it too.

It might be interesting to get some data on the number of whacks our new EU chums have had ( the ones which they stopped for ) since the UK border free-for -all began .

Now that wud be interesting… I wonder how many of those damaged by our EU friends have been paid out and how long it actually took

saw a unit (can’t remember what it was exactly) on the A1 a couple of weeks ago bearing the eagle freight terminal name, pulling a tautliner?

I have just been reading about David Croobe, the guy with the circus wagons, he he, I never was on there but I certainly remember Charley Parsley, John Etherington, Tony Khan (Brown Bear) and Billy Moore are just a few of the blokes that I remember, but the I remember all of these from previous companys as well. I wonder where they all are now, if they are still with us.

Charley has passed away .He finished his days as yardman for Croome but lived in Mabelthorpe. Ethrington ran away with a colleagues wife while on croome.Naturally croome sacked him. Last I heard they got married & went everywhere together in the truck. Bill Moore married Jeannette & moved to Bellegarde & was working for Stouf but that was years ago .

just wondered if you are kevin’s dad? if so you knew quite a few of the old boys I did my “apprenticeship” with too - trying to remember what (black) motor you ran mid 80s?

Hullo, Yes I had two of my sons working for me, Nicholas, he lives in Italy and drives a mobile Heart scanner trailer all over the place, and comes to England rarely. Kevin yes, he lives near Middlesbrough and does nights for a steel carrying company. The Black wagon that I had back in the '70’s was a Navy Blue and White Scania 111. (KFU 733P) HAPPY DAYS.

Hi Harry, Thanks for the reply. Sorry to hear about Charlie, a sad loss. And Pete running off with another woman, wow. I did hear that his brother Peter was running doubled up with a bird, but he was on Murfitts. I don’t think that we are talking about the same Billy Moore though, the one that I was asking about was a real Old Timer Pioneer, having been one of the very first men to run M/E, before David Croombe he was on Ferry Freighting for a good few years, before that OHS, and before that Sammy Williams of Dagenham.

We are getting our lines crossed here,Archie . It was John Ethrington that worked for croon & then muffit with his new wife. Billy Moore ! Sorry ,I was getting him mixed up with Pat Brenner . They were both big & had beards. Heard on another thread that poor old Bill has passed away .V.sad ;one of the best blokes on the road . Cold shiver when it dawned on me after Sunday lunch & 13.3% red wine. Billy is younger than me ,I had better make plans for my old age. Did he die peacefully in UK or in the foreign parts where he loved to be.? The younger drivers could have learned a lot from Bills happy go lucky way of doing things.
I wonder if we could get to see all the snaps he took of M/E etc. Bill was a keen photographer.

Hi Harry, Thanks for putting me right, I’ve oviously got the two Etheringtons mixed up, the last time I saw John was about 16 years ago I think, we were weekended at the bottom of the skislope ( new bit of road over the steelworks ) at the bottom of the Blanc. Peter I do know left MAT to go to Murfitts. So I’ve probably put two and two together and got three. Do you know it could be the very same Billy Moore, the description certainly fits, he was one of the first of us to do the M/E (Sammy Williams) The last time I saw him he was still on Ferry Freighting and was married to Hazel. I heard today from another bloke on this site that he had died. So yes it could very well have been him. Very Sad.

Not a very good picture, but this was taken on Thursday last at Aire de Longeville on the A4 heading for Strasbourg.

Archie PaiceSadly its fits Bills description all right. I am surprised to hear that he got married. I thought Bill was a confirmed bachelor. The last time I saw Bill he told about his new job ." The wages are only £100 a week but all the drinks are free!! "
PS. I keep getting these senior moments since I got a laptop… I have a few glasses of wine & then go to bed with a warm laptop & looking back at the last few weeks I can say that the whole thing has got very laid back. Maybe its something to do with the massive keys ? The plus side is I can,t be bothered by any kind of agro or ego trips ;I leave that for the desktop ,if at all these days.

BuzzardBoy/b]Its a brilliant picture .It gives you all the info at a glance ,lets face it we all know what a crime truck looks like.

Funny you should say that because after posting that, I saw an Eaglefreight rigid on the M1. Pretty ancient, N-reg ISTR
