Dave West. EASTENDERS

Hullo,
I wonder if anyone read or saw the news on the run up to the Christmas, that an old Friend to some of us, and a name known to most of us, was killed on December 12th. His Son is being charged with his Murder from what I understand.
My first memories of Dave West, a lad from Romford was when he first appeared in Calais with an old London bus and a Lorry, he had started selling Cigarettes, Tobacco and Booze from the back of the Lorry. Living in the Bus. He called himself Eastenders. Then he moved into a bigger premises, a Shed behind those the Cottages, just before the lights as you entered the Port. In the end he moved and opened a large wharehouse on the Industrial Estate. I never saw him much after he moved there, but I do know he opened another place up in Zeebrugge as well. I always found him to be a real Top Man. R.I.P. Dave.

Yes Archie,I did read that the other day. Great shame. RIP

David

He had a House just past the Total garage at Zeebrugge. There was a small cobble stoned loop road on the right after you passed the total, about half way along there was a wooden foot bridge over a ditch which led up to the house. There were pallets of beer on the side of the cobbles and you had to ring a bell for someone to come and take your money. I cant see that happening in today’s world. RIP Dave

Sorry mate, I am in Brasil at the moment and I only heard just before Christmas. We don’t get the News out here.

No probs archie we knew an hour after the murder because he"s related to my wifes family and one of the nephews was called to london to identify the body we knew that his son was going to be charged with his murder but had to wait for the news to break official for obvious reasons,He"gonna need one hell of a big coffin as he was always saying I would rather take it all with me or burn it than leave it to anyone.Personally i always shopped in pideau in calias.Still think off your nick on the odd occasion the late 90"s and early 00"s were fun times on the scanning trailers in northern italy .happy new year… Lee

Thanks for that Lee. I believe it was a good job for you lads. I knew Johnie Hollands too.

Remember getting packs of beer from there when your quota was 8 packs or there abouts. The bus and what I thought was railway wagons.
IIRC it was near to or along from the AS24…IDS stop. The last time I went it was on the Z.I. Not at all the same.

The site on Z I Marcel Doret is derelict now, folk shop at Pidou.
