Isn’t it about time this ridiculous set up was dragged into the twenty first century ■■ Either banish the tolls or automate them. Please.

get a tag, they are automatic

Not much help if you have to queue in traffic for 40 minutes to get to the toll plaza…

There’s “tag only” lanes for cars, so how come there’s never been some for lorries only?

Even the wide load “lane zero” lets cars through paying with more shrapnel than a grenade, which they then proceed to chuck at the caged keeper like a dodgems Ï€key might do bringing you your change out of a £20 note… :frowning:

France are the main users of the peage and they do work, sometimes they have to queue, but in general they are quite free running.

I don’t have a problem with them and if there isn’t an accident I doubt anyone is queueing much more than a few minutes.

Well, I’ve been queuing for much more, like 2 hours for example, just a friday afternoon on the tolls just outside Paris…

Oh, pics from google maps! How nice! They always are so nice, because they are made in days and times when the traffic is as low as possible for obvious reasons

Probably not far off for The Humberside Bridge - was about £18 last time I crossed it, that’s roughly 65 of your worthless currency isn’t it? :grimacing:

.

Humber bridge just been reduced £1.50 for cars £12 for trucks

Why don`t various logistics and haulage companies, get together :

Never happen haulage companies getting together…whatever next

Why have the Dartford Tolls never had left hand side booths? They could easily be accommodated on the two left hand lanes and these could still accept Tags. There is a high percentage of LHD vehicles using the crossings which have never been catered for. It would spped things up, save driver climbing across cab to pay. and why not accept Euros? say a straight five E’s each way. The downside is obviously drivers in the wrong lanes and holding others up.
Some regular LHD users seem to have Dart Tags now but many don’t. Some of the accidents at the tolls I’m sure are caused by cars suddenly spotting they are behind a foreign registered vehicle so change lanes to avoid being held up!
If drivers (cars I’m talking here!) have queued for ages why do they wait til they get to the barrier before finding the money!

Really?

My experience of the french tolls are similar to the that of the dartford crossing, if anything sometimes worse.

Do the french still own it?

mickyblue:
Do the french still own it?

No.
The HA/Government ‘own’ the bridge/tunnel. The toll has paid off the original charge and the toll is now a congestion charge which is an important revenue stream to maintain the network. The HA let contracts for the operation of the bridge/tunnel.

Why don`t various logistics and haulage companies, get together and file a law suit against the Govt. Citing the previous statements and sue the arse off this money grabbing bunch of [zb] :imp:

Because the government’s defence will always be

"It’s all Gordon Brown’s fault. We still don’t run the country after two years in office, and won’t admit to running it until our economy is out of the mire. We can’t very well be expected to keep promises that please the public made by a government no longer in office now can we?"

Funny how the current firm has not reversed any bloodsucking policies set up by the previous government eh?

It’s not too late to stop stealing our pensions, paying out too much incapacity benefits, paying dole for anyone out of work over a year, or charging umpteen times a year for anything to do with DVLA. I’m sure you can expand on this list, as it must be as close to endless as it’s possible to get! :imp:

ARRGHHHH!

up here in jock land the first thing the scottish goverment done when we got our own parliment was to abolish the bridge tolls .iirc the toll for a coach on the skye bridge was £81 return.

its about the only good thing this bunch have done for road haulage and tourism

The peages in southern France can be really bad with all the tourists heading for the Spanish borders.
