Had an interesting day yesterday, took a double decker trailer to Thurock to the RM workshop and was told to bring another one back. Got to admit that the trailers with the small wheels don’t give me much confidence but that’s life. When I hooked up to the other one I must have switched off my brain as instead of going back the way I came I blindly followed the signs for M25 South, guess what, when I realised I made a mistake it was way too late and I was on the QE2 bridge heading down towards the toll booth. Not having a penny to my name and not having been issued a Toll tag I was told that I’d have to be escorted back through the tunnel and get some money if i want to go this way. good job i told them that the trailer was 16ft 2in high as they very nearly escorted me down the smaller tunnel. Enjoyable fiasco but it made the dreary drive up to Thurock in the pouring rain and through the roadwork’s much more enjoyable.
So you went through TWO tolls without payment instead of ONE !!! - that makes sense - NOT
It must do to them, I offered to send the £3.70 to them but they refused. I believe there is logic somewhere but i don’t know where.
I thought they stopped doing that now?
It happened to me one night, in a truck with no credit on tag and me with just plastic, i too pointed out that i get three trips through tolls but only pay once!

do they still do discounts if you drive a rigid and when you a axle lifted you get a certain amount off the toll, used to do this all the time there loaded or empty

used to but they’ve changed all the prices now, one payment for rigids one for arctics, vans up to £2 cars £1.50 along with it being free between 10pm and 6am
why do they waste everybodys time by escorting you back over if you can’t pay? If your in a car and you have no money they just take your registration down and send you the bill?
We use the toll every night with double Decker’s, when i had a demo with no tag they just took the company’s address and sent them the bill. We tryed using 1 tag with 2 unit but this did not work as it needs 15mins reset, the computer thinks the tag has been cloned.
Wouldn’t they let you park up until 10pm 
A lesson learned, never leave the house with less than a tenner in your pocket 
This was at 7pm, have to be in burton by 10.30pm. Now have £10 in my folder just in case.
A couple of weeks ago I pulled up behind a car that didn’t have any cash. It took 6 minutes for the appointed person to arrive and take the drivers details. I got out and asked the appointed person if the procedure could be done on the hard shoulder right next to the booth, as traffic was building up.
The reply was “no, get back in your vehicle”
If I had spoken to him like that, it would defined as “being abusive to their staff”.
They obviously derive some kind of satisfaction from causing congestion.
Reminds me, some years ago I worked with a right arrogant bloke. When we were made redundant he went to work there, must have fitted in a treat.

I rarely carry GBP, I have other currencies in my wallet from previous trips though and I paid with Euros when the company I work for had not put credit on the tag :unamused: It was that or turn me around :unamused: The road system in this country really is maintained by thoroughbred muppets.....I cant wait for escape to reality…

nah it’s the same as arctics now, £3.70 which is cheaper than it used to be for drawbars
Used to carry three dart tags in mine, had to be wary of which one was in the window because they would try and charge you top whack when you were running empty and had the lift-axle up 
A four wheeler with a drawbar trailer is £2 
I asked if I could send them the money but was told no as they don’t have the ‘account details’
It seems like a solid waste of time and effort to ■■■■■■ me back through, surely they could afford to swallow one fee.
The ‘person’ was pretty polite and arrived very quickly.
And whilst we’re on the subject… Why last Thursday did the stupid ■■■■■■■ ■■■■■ close one of the ■■■■■■■ tunnels in the middle of the ■■■■■■■ afternoon just to repair some stupid ■■■■■■■ potholes in the road surface, why the ■■■■ couldn’t they just use their ■■■■■■■ heads and wait till night-time when the ■■■■■■■ road is quiet and we aren’t expected to ■■■■■■■ pay to use the ■■■■■■■■ relax!
If the bridge was closed would they still have closed one of the tunnels.
I think we all know the answer to that.
Problem; Why is there so much congestion when there three times as many toll booths, than traffic lanes on the approaches?
Solution; Have some booths for TAGs only, one for left hookers paying cash , and one for those without money. That way the delays should only affect the minority. Simple!
