Dartford - Thurrock Crossing price changes.
The changes are :
"From 6am on 7 October 2012, cash payments at the Crossing will increase from £1.50 to £2.00 for cars, from £2.00 to £2.50 for 2 axle goods vehicles, and from £3.70 to £5.00 for heavy goods vehicles. The Crossing will remain free for motorcyclists and discounts will continue for local residents and DART-Tag account holders who pay in advance. Any vehicle using the crossing between 10pm and 6am can continue to do so for free.

Roads Minister Mike Penning said:
“The Dartford-Thurrock River Crossing is a vital piece of transport infrastructure, but upgrades need to be made. To do that, we need to start planning now for the future.
“That’s why we are introducing free-flow charging by the autumn 2014 and currently analysing the options for a new crossing in the Lower Thames area.
“We have listened carefully to what people have said, which is why charges that were meant to be implemented towards the end of last year have been delayed until now. The money raised will help us prioritise investment for much needed improvements to increase capacity and reduce journey times.”
This is the first of two planned changes to the charges that was previously announced in May 2012**. A second increase will be made when free-flow charging is introduced** when the cost to travel by car will increase to £2.50, by 2 axle vehicles to £3 and by heavy goods vehicles to £6.
So what happens if you turn up at the tolls and find out there’s no credit on the Dart tag, you ain’t got any money and the only means of payment you have is plastic (which they don’t except)

How do I know if I am running short of credit?
If your account is running short of credit, you will see a message on the Dart-Tag system lane display saying ‘Low Credit’. You may also use our website to check your balance and top-up your account.

Did that last week. Turned up at 6:01am, having got stuck on the way behind a road closure. They won’t take a card payment, and they won’t write a ticket out to the company any more.
I had the option of paying cash out of my own pocket, or being turned around.
'kin jobsworths!
The whole bridge project was supposed to be free by now anyway. Just another broken promise from the folk in suits that all need lining up against the wall and shooting!
In this day and age , with every shop and stall having the facility to use a swipe or chip and pin card facilty
, that they would have just even 1 card swipe machine to hand for such "emergency " cases .
Or, have a "cash dispenser machine " tucked away in a corner somewhere handy — they already handle large cash amounts anyway.
Not turn the vehicle around and send them miles out of the way ,
how much extra must that be on the "carbon footprint "

Basically having paid for the bridge, they now say they are collecting the money for a new crossing. Of course they haven’t given a date and I bet the money collect isn’t ring fenced for the project.
can you not still go across to the office and pay in there(may have been northbound only)
