The date has been set for the barriers to go .They are also going to put the prices up as well.
Get rid of the staff AND put the prices up, you couldn’t make this ■■■■ up
Not bad to say the government pledged it would be free once paid for, whenever that was.
At least they are keeping it free between 2200 and 0600
Kent Mercury (2nd March):
The date when free-flow tolls come into force at the Dartford Crossing has been revealed today.New charges - paid on the internet or via phone - will begin on October 26 this year, with promotion of the barrier-less system beginning in September.
Lets just move the goal posts to suit then shall we.
The first time I used the Dartford tunnel was with a petrol tanker. I stopped at the pay booth and the man asked if I had been to the dangerous goods inspection area. I did not know what he was on about. There is a slip road from the tolls to get back to this area.
The procedure is to come off at the last junction and into this area . You are then allowed back through the tolls and then have to wait in a layby for the ■■■■■■ vehicle to take you through the tunnel.
If the layby is full you are held in the inspection area until the layby is cleared.
I was first in the layby one day so had the longest wait for a few others to join me and I was having a pee in a bottle when I noticed the ■■■■■■ vehicle had all the traffic stopped for me to pull out .
Phil.
This is the biggest pain in the bum, i use to hate it on Friday afternoon trying to get to Snodland and it still is a pain but this could speed things up now there paid for the bridge and tunnel 10 times over, the French own it now and have done since it paid for itself the 1st time

Well that’s what i heard and got told
As this will all be done on ANPR does anyone know what systrm they have in place for the flip flops?
It’s not going to be cost effective to chase them down to their own countries (if the country’s equivalent of the DVLA would even give out owners details) and they’re not going to have a toll plaza.

Don’t worry, it was pledged that foreigners “will be chased up”. I read this in an article a while ago, think it was BoJo.
I remain unconvinced. I suspect the flip flops will be delighted with this advancement… M25 - free tolls as well as free parking.

Would love to know how they can justify the increase in prices.
Are you sure that wasnt LEZ? After all, the crossing wouldn’t be part of Boris’ remit.
Only in this country could we over complicate something so you spend £50 chasing a £6 toll.
Edit: there are foreigners who already use dart tags, so the crossing operatorz will have written to them and no doubt they’ll be charged. It’s the one offs that will get across for free.
