Just checked my Dartford crossing account as I crossed twice in car last week and I’ve only been charged for northbound.
Has anyone else come across similar because I’m starting to think their number plate recognition is maybe not as good as they like to make out.

Any crossings take place between 10pm & 6am■■?
Northbound was 09.17, southbound was approx 10.45 but only got charged for northbound.
Don’t consider it to be a daft question, just interested to know if anyone else has had free crossings

No it was 10.45am. Can’t really say I was too close to vehicle in front as crossing was busy but no more than usual.

No it was 10.45am. Can’t really say I was too close to vehicle in front as crossing was busy but no more than usual.

If this is the case then it’s guna end up like the Italian toll boots,a dozen vehicles all up each other’s arse to go thro barrier before it comes down,only at dartford they’ll be getting that close so plate can’t be read, will be worse than ever
Yes, I did an experiment on this in my car a couple of weeks ago coming southbound over the bridge on a Sunday afternoon, tucked myself closely behind an artic in slow-moving traffic in a deliberate attempt to hide my number plate from the ANPR, and it worked, I wasn’t charged for the crossing.
The truck I was driving was missed both ways on one day, I thought it had missed another one of our trucks, but the driver told me he’d gone through before 6am.
In a car I only got charge northbound as well… Not sure why but was in a line of traffic coming home…
So sounds possible.
I went over and back in the car in December. Only got charged southbound. Tag beeped both ways as well…

Tags still work, I think they’ve kept them as it identifies the account holder and type of vehicle quicker than the anpr system. But the truck I drove had a tag and still didn’t get charged.

I’ve got the local residents tag for the dartford crossing and it still beeps everytime I go over my dad also signed up for the local residents tag after the new system was put in place and he receivced tag for putting in the windscreen which also bleeps everytime he goes over

When I changed my account from Dart Tag to Dart charge, I was sent a new tag. This beeps on every crossing, both ways in the charging period. Havn’t received a statement yet to see if I have been charged for all the crossings.

When I changed my account from Dart Tag to Dart charge, I was sent a new tag. This beeps on every crossing, both ways in the charging period. Havn’t received a statement yet to see if I have been charged for all the crossings.

Wrong. The tag still works and they will send the.m to people with an account. Thanks for your input though.
