I forgot the quick pic of charges , so here it is :-

is it just me that thinks that they should scrap the tolls completly on the bridge side, the hold ups it cause is daft. i can understand keeping a charge for the tunnel for escorts of hazerdous and some mainainance

just my opinion

Bit like the Severn Bridge you mean, just charging one way? That causes quite a bit of resentment, and I’d guess the bridge costs about as much to maintain as the tunnel does, if not perhaps more. Agree about the holdups though; perhaps the encouragement towards more use of the tags might help.

i didnt make that a very good post!! i only meant scrapping the tolls on the bridge to ease the flow of traffic at least one way, i do think there needs to be control at the tunnel for the ■■■■■■ of hazardous, but at least get one side moving, them tolls cause so many hold ups, which also lead to accidents it seems (to me anyway!)

They do need to charge in order to cover the running costs of the bridge im not sure what it is but they shouldnt be making a profit from it.

They should also stop charging at rush hour purely to let the traffic get through for at least one hour.

Fine if you’ve got to charge, then charge but like everyone else I reckon stopping the bridge traffic is unneccasary.

If they doubled the toll on the tunnel and scrapped it on the bridge they’d lose the overheads of manning the tolls. OK so a bit of traffic might go the other way round but that’d help to ease the traffic anyway.

There is a charge already, it’s called road tax.
one day the government will privatise the entire road network. :imp:

Right:
Cash cost for bigger trucks is now £3.70 up from £2.90, Tag is up from £2.69 to £3.20, all vehicles free from 10pm to 6am, which is good news for all.

If you use the tunnel or bridge a lot, get a tag if you haven’t one already. Overnight drivers will gain most from this, presumably all lanes open and barriers up all night, both ways, should make life far easier.

severn bridge probably make enough in a week to maintain bridge and pay wages etc for a year

it wont work quite like that mate, just think of the accidents/people speeding through!!! the barriers will still be used as far as i’ve heard but there will be no charge. being based in tilbury and covering most of the south east i go though most days, it is going to be so much busier 5 to 6am were going to have to start even earlier to beat the que!!!

Surely it was supposed to become free once it had been paid for out of the tolls. I wonder where all the money goes now?

i think there is a new crossing on the cards and also if it was free would there maintain it as there do now when the tolls pay if it was free the gov would have to foot the bill and i think that would be wrong

del

I’ll go back to what Limeyphil said Delboy. there is already a tax it’s called road tax. What’s wrong with the government footing the bill? We foot the bill every day with that little disc in the window. They can manage to find x billions of pounds to send in aid to one of the strongest economies in the world (the Chinese) so why the hell can’t they extend some of that aid to one of the most impoverished, cash starved minorities in the world. Us, the folk who keep Britain moving.

Sorry if someone has already pointed this out but I read it & the red mist descended :smiling_imp:

THERE IS A SMALL DISC IN THE WINDSCREEN THAT PAYS FOR THE UPKEEP OF THE ROADS :unamused:

It’s scandalous, there should be a blockade :imp:

I see that it has been pointed out before, but I had to have my say, for a change
