As promised… four pictures (news cuttings) of the Darby’s tipper that was hit by a Harvard plane in Ely…August 9th 1951…
The plane banked sharply to miss Ely Cathedral in very low cloud and a witness said that it hit the roof of Brand’s shop and then the lorry. The smithy, next to Brand’s was totally destroyed. The side view of the wrecked truck was taken later, after it had been dragged backwards across the road for recovery. The other three pictures were taken within minutes of the event…norman long
