Dangerous Police Driver!

Was driving towards Doncaster today on the A630 near the A1 junction when I pulled up at a pedestrian crossing as the light had changed to red. The road is quite wide and just as I stopped, a Police car came around the outside of the van I was driving and through the red light.

Luckily the pedestrian had not bothered to wait for the lights to change and had already crossed as I approached. However, it would have been impossible for the police to see anybody else crossing in front of the van from my nearside.

The police car shot off up the road at speed but without blue lights or siren.

As I got to the A1 roundabout, I could see he had pulled a truck on the dual carriageway at the otherside. I had just seen this truck cross Warmsworth traffic lights and couldn’t see anything untoward. (It definately wasn’t speeding and it was a brand new Merc Axor in good order)

If a member of the public had done this, I am sure it would be classed as dangerous driving and they would now be facing a heavy penalty.

So if the South Yorkshire Police officer who was driving a Volvo T5 estate (Traffic Car) along the A630 in Warmsworth at 10.20am today is reading this, I got your number! Expect a complaint.

Rant over. Thanks for reading!

it’s now 23.06 have you made the complaint yet

Still contemplating a written complaint or a telphone call! Will wait until morning.

Seriously though, it is the worst bit of driving I have seen in a long time

Probably true.

I’ve had dealings with South Yorkshire Police before. I usually find they take note if you start with the Chief Constable.

Running down the A1 a few weeks ago, just passing the slip road for the A15 and a car passed me then drove over the hatched area up the A15 sliproad.
Nothing unusual in that, but this was also a Volvo T5 Estate (Traffic?) Police car.

Perhaps these cars are exempt from the laws of the road at all times?

Killsville, I have over the past few weeks seen some appalling drivng from South Yorkshire police. Used to think they were well trained good drivers don’t any more. If I thought for a minute reporting them would do any good I would, but I think it would be a complete waste of time. Having said that I think telling SYP anything is a waste of time, even what day it is.

Killsville, that isn’t a rant. It is a constant source of genuine concern, the way those Sheffield cowboys perform.

Definitely, write to the Chief Constable - straight away.

In my dealings with large organisations I have never got anything done until I wrote to the Chief Executive, Chairman, MD or whatever. Believe me it does work.

Salut, David.

I was in Sheffield a couple of weeks ago and had to pick up from steel firm cant remember the name (but I’m sure sombody will as the story goes on).

I came off the motorway at Meadow hall then came off roundabout after shopping center exit.
My road was next left but when I got there it was a low bridge.
I pull up to side of road and I’m looking at sat nav screen trying to find another way in.
I notice 3 or 4 cars pull out of the road onto my road with no problem.
Then just as I’ve worked out my route I hear a police siren.
I look out of my drivers window and a traffic (zb)(I think you meant volvo)T5 is sitting next to me going the other way.
I wind down my window and copper says

“are you gonna be there all day”

reply

“No I need to be in that road but I cant get under the bridge”

copper

“you’ll have to move”

me

“do you know how to get to ? steel firm”

copper

“no,you’ll have to move”

reply

“but I dont where to go”

copper

“I dont care you’re blocking the road”

Now he’s given me the hump so

“no i’m not you are”

copper

“what?”

me

“I said I’m not blocking the road you are, I’m parked to one side of the road with my hazards on and you are sitting in the carriageway holding up those 3 cars behind you”

copper

“I told you to move”

reply

“and I said I will as soon as I figure out how to get to where I’m going”

At which point I returned to sat nav screen pretended to concentrate on it for about a minute.
Then he gets out of car (whilst still blocking road) to approach me

As he does I say

" oh it’s ok you dont have to show me how to get there I’ve just figured it out on the sat nav "

& pulled away

Alternatively he could have asked if I was having a problem and offered assistance

My wife & I witnessed an accident several months ago & to say the traffic pigess was ignorant would be an under statement.
My wife is a duel qualified nurse & wrote as a qualified psychiatric nurse to complain, including descriptions of behavioural models & the potential results of the pigess’s behaviour to prove her point.
About a week later she recieved a phone call from a senior officer who had a long chat with her, about the incident & behavioural training, the result of which was that he told my wife he was not at all surprised that the pigess had behaved in this way & that it was not the first such incident she had been involved in & would my wife be happy to conclude the incident with a Sargent informally.
The Sargent when he arrived told us of his surprise at the behaviour & how the pigess was a “FAMILY SUPPORT OFFICER”   .
My wife again pointed out that stress is as big a killer as physical injury & that the officers behaviour was totally unacceptable, especially as the driver, (an innocent victim of a stupid half dead pedestrian,) was awaiting a check by the paramedics & showing very obvious signs of distress.
The Sargent just did not see it, seems like there may be a very reason why some never progress beyond PC or Sargent in our Police force & also a very good reason why they just refer to it a “THE FORCE”.

Sounds like you were on Attercliffe Road (just before the Arena). That road is really wide and would not be dangerous to pull up at the side of the road.

Judging by all your comments, I will definately give SY Police some stick, perhaps hand delivering the letter when I go to Sheffield on Monday!

I’ve just looked on msn maps and I was in Blackburn Road and wanted to turn left into Fife Street

Should 'av looked before posting :unamused:

As far as I know, the traffic division in Doncaster replaced their T5 estates with S60’s with the T5’s going to the task force, but they may still have an estate, so it’s possible it wasn’t traffic.

KitKat I think the firm you were going to is Athur Lees. Been there a few times but never with a waggon always with a van.

There are still more estate T5’s than S60’s round here. It was probably from the traffic depot at Wath Upon Dearne as they have loads of estates.
