Dangerous dogs - itv 9pm

Carefully thought out legislation is the only realistic barrier to this ongoing circus. Sadly, this subject seems to be firmly placed in the “lip service” category, and I cant see it being moved up and onto anyones political agenda in the foreseeable future.

Agreed, unfortunately it’s never going to be a vote winner as most people only care when something “major” happens… how soon they forget though! Conversely with the number of dog owners in the country it could be a massive vote loser & as most politicians are only interested in getting their snouts in the trough I doubt any party will risk real reforms, IMO.

One of the good things to come out of the programme was that it showed how unfit for purpose the Dangerous Dogs act is by focusing on breed only, with a death sentence for anything on the wrong side of a tape measure.

The Pit Bull shown playing with toys (later put down) was a victim of very poor legislation which states that Pit Bulls cannot be rehomed ever, not even to a qualified dog trainer/expert… because it was unclaimed the fact that it was clearly non aggressive didn’t come into it, it was PB type… goodbye!

pitbulls are not bad dogs as long as you look after it and can handle it

In my opinion no dog is born bad but any dog of any breed can be “turned”. What we have to realise is that big, muscular dogs are regarded as status symbols by some of the lowlife in our society & if you own a “status” dog you want it to impress your mates… docile & friendly doesn’t cut it with these morons! Do a youtube search for “pitbull therapy dogs” to see how they can/should be if raised properly.

There are also people like Vanessa who shouldn’t be allowed to look after herself never mind pets!

The whole dog (pet) ownership issue needs shaking up massively… breeding, buying, owning all have to be revised but I can’t see anything happening any time soon & unimaginable abuse/cruelty will continue with everyone turning a blind eye!

My kindle has a spell checker on it don’t now why it changed it to fog lol

How many people here own large and strong dogs. I have a akita it is very friendly to me and my family but if some one it don’t know go’s near it it will attack them. but it is only trying to protect me that’s natural to some dogs breads but pitbulls were bread to be fighting dog’s that’s why they are illegal but again if you can handle one and look after it and play with it they can be lovely dogs. So dog’s can only become bad if they are beaten or not looked after right. Like that dog at the end it had a ear infection and was never fead and would of turned on its owner but the owner cleaned up his garden and started feeding it a lot more and is taking it to the vet if more people would do that there would be a lot less damage dogs
