Pulling a Montracon trailer?
We’ve only a few Montracon trailers, but I ended up with one and did exactly the same myself. Tipping at a spot in Sheffield, Fresh island foods. Anyone who has been will know about the reverse in to their yard.

Our lot got rid of all the run ups some years ago. With air suspension and the correct technique, you don’t need them.Until you carry loads like we do with a 9 tonne stack of chipboard in front of the landing legs causing the front end to drop drop a good 4/5 inches when you drop the trailer. If someone hasn’t lifted the air suspension right up before they wound the legs down you’re not getting under it without ramps.
I’ll put money on it thats an SDC or a Montracon trailer - horrible things that “flex” supossedly designed that way . I knew it happened but got my eyes opened when we started pulling Dennison flats loaded with concrete a few years ago . They had a slightly thicker (deeper) chasis out over the front and was suprised to see one being dropped and little to no flex in the neck. Always rated a Dennison as a better trailer after that .
I’m sure CF will be along soon to educate us all on picking up trailers

Pulling a Montracon trailer?Bingo! We have a customer at Bedford where we back down a sunken ramp to get onto the bay and we’ve had to stop sending Monty’s after all the damage our units were sustaining as we pulled off the bay which is a steep uphill that then goes completely flat just at the point where we are having to turn hard right.
That was the situation, sunken loading bay and no room in front to keep it straight.
Advised to move the fifth wheel right to the back (we don’t carry any weight) is that good advice?

I thought he would have been on by now
Had exactly the same situation with a Volvo FH4 with run up ramps and a Chereau fridge trailer with a sunken loading bay and no room to keep straight whilst reversing onto/pulling forward from loading bay…only way to do it was to raise rear of trailer and drop air out of unit to keep run up ramps clear of chassis rail whilst manouvering…ramps were removed after about 3 months

Good advice but fraught with difficulties; if, and it’s a big if you can actually pull the handle to move the fifth wheel you’re covering yourself in grease and assorted crap tbh. Yes it can be done but quite frankly I’d not bother. Better to follow the advice above and raise the trailer, drop the unit and inch out waiting for that feeling of it catching and then stopping and re assessing the situation.
On my check sheet I just write , Damage & crap everywhere , I’d literally be here to Xmas writing every bit of damage down , I got a week old daf xg the other day with damage to the grill , just put it on check sheet was office bods answer , not interested

That might come back and bite you in the arse if you get stopped by DVSA and defects are found. It implies you knew about defects and used it anyway.
