That video doesn’t even show what a defect looks like!

The reality is that what the law requires is for a walk-around to be performed, to observe things that would be obvious to a driver. Wholly flat tyres, most wheel nuts missing, blown lights, or bodywork obviously in a damaged and dangerous condition.

It’s not the driver’s role to be a mechanic - indeed there is no necessary reason why a driver would have any mechanical experience - or to be performing something equivalent to an MOT on a daily basis (but without the benefit of tools, training, experience, indoor workshops, and inspection pits).

in reality then mine is a walk round enroute to have a ■■■■ and an eyeball on the back doors to see ive not been robbed. :frowning:

I do a quick tyre check when I tip/load have a coffee break. If I’ve the same trl on all week any morning checks in the dark, cold and wet can be…expedited. And the first coffee of the day can be savoured.

I did post on another thread about this that the DVSA “model” ducks under the front bumper to check for oil leaks at the start of the video and checks the handbrake is on at the end of the video :unamused:
Not putting the sidelights on before you walk around seems a bit stupid too.

thats the way to do it.
crawl out of the pit, card in,( mostly). ,mug into the microwave after the engines started,go for a wizz, back in with the feet up and a cuppa contemplating world affairs for 10 mins, then crack on drive and see what unfolds to ■■■■ me off first…

I like the dark mornings as they make a brake light check easy , push pedal look in mirrors [emoji6][emoji16]

Invaluable information, thanks for sharing. I always used to check the steps/handles/tachograph/handbrake first, I see now I’ve been doing it wrong all this time. Stick your head under the unit to check for liquid leaks before you’ve checked that the handbrake is on and works seems like such an obvious thing to do, I don’t know what I was thinking doing it the other way round

That’s where you slipped up, thinking

The last thing he checks is the tacho so he has done a walk round without a card in on other work, I believe that’s an offence, can we take him to the stocks now :smiling_imp:

I won’t be volunteering to rub my bare hands around my tyres on kneeling under the front of my motor in a ■■■■■■■■■ services lorry park
