Say I start driving at 6pm on Monday night, I do 9 hours driving, obviously with a 45 min break taken, maybe couple hours other work, then have a reduced daily rest period on 9 hours, can I start driving again before 6pm Tuesday or do I have to wait until the next 24 hours kicks in?
This question comes up a lot and the reason it does is a question of terminology.
There isn’t really a ‘daily driving limit’ but there is a limit to the amount of driving which can be done between rest periods, 9 or 10 hours, so as soon as you have finished a rest period you have another 9 or 10 hours at your disposal.
It does tell you this in the regulations but hardly anybody ever reads them.
You will poss have a newish truck with a digi tach in when you get to 4.5 hrs driving it will let you know but if you do a print out that should keep you right as well
Or if in doubt use 1 of the timers that is available
Or when you pass Sandy Lane Good Testing Station call in ask for the Driver Hours & Tacho Rules for Goods Vehicles its free btw
I will be driving a 09 or 10 plate so it will have a digi.
I have the drivers hours on my comp, I just got thrown with the whole 24 hour thing, got it clear now though and I understand the rest I think, I will keep note of the hours I do so I can keep track over the week/weeks, especially as I will be doing overtime aswel
